R12, R134A question
sorry for the dumb question but im re installing my a/c and i have everything i need off a 93 civic which is the R12 system...so i went to Honda and bought a new dryer but they told me they only sell the r134a dryers. my question is will the r134a dryer fit when my whole a/c system is r12?...or would i need to buy some type of retro fit kit to make the dryer fit? will i need to get new lines or will the lines i have work?...thanx for your help
the retro fit kit is just for being able to basically use a r134 machine. Its like adaptors for the high side and low side fittings. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use the dryer I think its just a updated dryer, why would there be a differnce in thread sizes on the alumnium lines. I might be wrong about this, ive never had to deal with this before. But usually when a car comes in to convert to r134 you need to a retro fit kit and all that is, is fittings for the 134 machine.
I know that you need to make sure that you completely remove the old r12 out of the lines, you can use brake cleaner and squirt them through the lines. and make sure you replaced all the o-rings. Make sure everything is clean before you reassemble. Do a good vaccum for like 15mins before you charge the system to and make sure you have no leaks. I just put ac back in my crx.

I think the change on the dryier is just going to be the material or silica-gel or even if its changed for the type of freon. I don't see what the difference would be between a r12 dryier and a 134 as far as sizes go. Its basically a filter. The material inside the drier job is basically to keep moisture out of the compressor.
