TO ALL RICH RUNNING EF D15B2's NEED HELP DIAG
Ok so heres the deal i just picked up a 90 dx hatchback, and shes running very rich i can see her smoking and i smell the fuel. A full tune up has been done ( correctly ) and shes still running rich.
- I get hard starts ( are the cylinders getting flooded?)
- backfired a couple times right after the engine starts running
- all the old plugs were fouled with carbon
- smokes out the back at idle and while revving
- while revving a black fuely wattery substance blows out of the exhaust (good amount)
from what ive searched this is a pretty common problem, and ive heard of people have replaced the 02 sensors, cats, injectors, ecu's, and still nothing. i was wondering if replacing the PGM-FI relay should be the first step in tackling this problem, and also if the igniter and coil play a role in this aswell

first i would make sure you are really running rich get the car on a 5 gas machine(sniffer) or hook up a Y band i smell fuel on my car all the time but i'm runnig lean at idle 16;1 a/f so make sure before and adjustments. first step in diagnostics is verfiy the complaint
