I've heard the same thing, The oil has a "break-in" additive. I ran mine untill 5K untill my first oil change.

It does have an additive in the oil to allow a better break in period. It was the same way on my '05 Coupe. Just go back in about 3k more miles and it should be ok.

I heard of this too with my 02 coupe LX. No issues with doing this. You will just save the time and money for now. Run perfect for 44,000 miles before I traded it in.

BTW MJBodoy- What are you running?

For the Si, I have seen a number of people changing out the oil to full synthetic around 3,000 miles. I changed mine around 4,000 miles, but only to a synthetic blend.

Nope but the old B-series did. Porsche and Evo come with synthetic from the factory.

Manual says don't change to synthetic until 10,000 miles but like you said other people are doing it.

The real question is it bad to keep break in oil for that long since a new motor might have alot shavings during break-in period?

Not sure about that. I hadn't heard that before.

I would say follow the manual during the break in period. Will it affect the others that already changed it? Not sure, but I haven't seen any one complain.

I would not leave the break in oil in there for 10,000 miles. Maybe 7500 at the most. That is following what I had to do for the 02 civic LX.
