i was also interested in this, I am planning on doing this also. If anyone had some pics if they can post and a place where I can get the parts. Thanks
It fits, looks, and performs exactly like an original 5 speed one that comes out of the factory. It costed me around 3.5g for everything. I did not have time back then due to the AT died unexpectly during my school semester, so the paid the shop to do it. 1g on labor, around 1.5g for all the parts to complete the conversion (some of them I bought new from Honda), almost another g for aftermarket clutch and flywheel (don't have to do these but since there was no extra labor, why not?). I don't know how much others pay, but that was how much I paid. I don't have pictures sorry.
you are from long beach right? There is a guy on socalprelude.com that is doing swaps for a what he says is a "pretty cheap price." I think 2g? or somewhere around that area. His name is preludetypeS try PMing him. I think it takes him about a week to do it and he is located in sandiego.
wow the swaps cost that much money? I am about to convert my prelude to automatic. do u think its a good deal on my end? I have an act clutch and act flywheel, and im trading with a guy that has an ss. he found a guy that has done the swap before and is paying for most of the labor, but i have to pay 150 on my end. should i do it?
p.s. the reason im convertin to automatic is because im giving my prelude to my little sister who is now just learning to drive.

Trade the car with someone who is having an auto and want a 5speed. Less hassle, less money and less headache. I'm sure there are a lot of people will be willing to trade with you.

it may be retarded to you, but im gettin a hell of a deal out of it. my sister LOVES my car. and my parents were gonna buy her a new one, but instead she gets my car, and they buy me a used e46 M3. now u can see why im going out of my way to get this done. yes i know im spoiled blah blah but its not like any of u guys would turn down a free car upgrade.

ur not doing her any favor swapping in a good tranny for one that has been known to have problems. learning how to drive a 5 speed is like learning how to write in cursive. You just have to practice and learn the right way from the get go.
thats why i am saying its retarded. But good luck to you and your decisions.

ok i must be retarded for asking this one, but ss trannys have problems? oh and just to clear this up. i offered to teach her to drive stick. but my mom wants her to have an auto because she thinks itll be too much for her to handle (because she just turned 16 and is learning to drive) and the other reason is so that my mom can use the car sometimes too (mom doesnt know how to drive stick and doesnt want to learn). but can someone clear up what 98vtec said about ss tranny problems? are they known to happen a lot? ill have to search on it. and thanks for the heads up 98vtec

'97-'99 SS trannies were the worst of the bunch, and '00-'01 are only marginally better due to TCM and torque converter changes. My girlfriend's '99 SS died at 55,000, and it is now a 5 speed. I did the swap myself. I would not consider a '97-'01 Prelude, Accord, or CL for purchase if it is automatic. Check with your Honda dealer and ask about the 100k Extended transmission warranties and goodwill program for more info.

Here is the pm I sent you incase others are interested:
The swap looks stock, because I used stock parts and took the time to do the job right. It is not as easy as a Civic, because the Prelude chassis are different between auto and manual. You will need to drill three holes in the firewall with precision location for the clutch master cylinder. You will also need to fabricate a bracket to support the clutch pedal box to keep it from having a fatigue failure. The auto chassis does not have the proper bracket for the upper mount on the pedal box. The parts were about $2200, and I figure around 15 hours of labor total, because when I did it three years ago there was little information available about this swap, so I had to figure out what parts and steps were needed as I went. It also took me almost a month to locate all of the parts.
