Which year ITR Motor is the best???
The best im refering to horsepower, performance and handling.
Is it the newer it is, the better? Why is it different and what change was made if any?
Im planning on buying one. Help!

They are all the same as far as handling and what not go. The engines are also all the same, the 97's have OBD I ecu's vs OBD II for the later years, if that makes a difference to you. Also there has been much debate on whether the 00-01 ITRs have a differ Cam than the older 97-98's, I as of yet have not heard definitive proof.
from a purely performance standpoint the 97-98's where available w/o A/c though finding one not equiped would be hard to do. I've also noticed that ITR motors dont really make prime HP until about 20k miles..but thats my OWN observation, I dont have proof to backit up...

yea i've heard that a lot..though I always feel like my 98 was stronger than my 2k...but i know thats in my head...I really miss that car. I have vowed to myself to one day once again own a CW ITR.

00-01s have slightly more aggressive intake cams (i think?) to make up for more stringent emissions type ****. not a whole hell of a lot of difference though. I dont think a stock 2001 will roll a stock 98 too badly. unless its yellow
2000-01 Type-R intake cams are slightly more agressive than 97-98 intake cams. Exhaust cams are the same. The performance difference between the older vs. newer Type-R's is slight. I can't really tell the difference between them myself. Some motors that have the same specs are stronger than others due to small production differences. It's the mods that really separate the fast cars from the also rans.

heheMike - who is just having a bit of fun
Prime HP at 20k? Can anyone else agree on this?
I wanted to boost my R at about 10k, but after hearing this I want to wait and feel my engines optimal output.

dude its only what I found in my cars. Could be the way I broke them in or treated them...? I'd say 10k is a good time to start messing w/ it. I am curious though if someone really does have any technical explination why I have found what i have
i don't think there is much different with different year, it could be just interior. But for more of car, i believe the last version of car usually has less problem than first version.
year does not matter....motors out of black cars are fastest.
i guess i have a ways to go to get that "optimum" performance with only 12K miles... heh
my 2001 has 30k miles and is still getting quicker and the redline has gone up to over 86k. the speedometer stops at 146mph@7k but it pulls a little more after...

i'll have to second that
