Default Stupid question about ep3 stock seats...

I drive quite a bit every week and I feel like the ep3 seats have no lumbar support. I have been driving more than ever of late and despite doing extra ab/core work at the gym and seeing a message therapist my back is killing me. Here is the dumb question, have any of you used a lumbar pillow in your ep3?

I know most of you all arent old enough to know you have a lumbar region, but maybe some of the "old guys" can help another "old guy" out.

Thanks, Giff

I'm not old but I use to have ep3 seats in my dc5 and after long drives my back would start hurting, so I switched back to my dc5 seat which has an adjustable lumbar support. You should try the lumbar pillow I guess, and see if it helps.

Not that it even remotley pertains to the question, but my back is hurting for the first time in my life. My job is at a warehouse and it is starting to really take a toll on me. My dad has 2 herniated disks in his lower lumbar section and he used to come home from work and just lay in bed untill the next day. Anyways, this is not something to mess around with. Do whatever it takes to make you more comfortable

I guess the ep3 has crappy seats for longer drives and I should try to make some changes.

Thanks

giff, i think i responded to a similar thread you made, maybe on k-series? i'm 6'0" and about 240#. i find the seats comfortable, but i'm not here to argue that, just trying to help. i'm an industrial designer with over 7 years in automotive, office, and residential seating design experience. ergonomics and posture is a specialty of mine. have you looked into an inflatable lumbat support like this:

http://www.miatamania.com/Shop...der=1

you could probably put it where you need it by unzipping the panel on the back of the front seat. just a suggestion. have you tried altering you position to recline a little more and move the seat up a little or vice versa?

You may have, this has been on ongoing issue for me. I have just gotten to the point that my entire back is becoming hyper sensitive from my lower back being so out of whack. I dont remember seeing the Miata device before, that may be a good solution and so cheap. I will have to look at my seats and see how easy that thing would be to slide in.

Thanks for the hook up

Will a reclined seat position take away from pressure from the lower back?

yes. gravity pulls straight down. if you are reclined it takes some pressure off your lower back.

i'm sure i'm not telling you anything you probably haven't thought of, but have you considered getting your back looked at? i was having some back problems about two years ago that were attributed to compression injuries from playing hockey in my youth (for 14 years) the doc sent me to a specialist and i learned some stretching exercises and such that really helped a lot.

Strange you should mention that, I had almost the exact same issue. I played hockey from 8 until I was 21 and underwent several rounds of PT on the old back. My back is rarely 100% ever anymore, one to many crosschecks in front of the net, but right now it's just really getting irritated. I hate going to docs anyway, they are always so non-committal.

i played from about 5 - 19. i know what you're talking about. i quit after destroying my left knee and suffering too many concussions.

goto the doc, man. get a couple of opinions.
do you have a desk job? (i/e sit most of the day?) if so, your office chair could have something to do with it or attributing to the situation.

don't let it start affecting other parts of your life.
