Default 4th Gen VTEC Rear 6x9 Speaker Console

I've been thinking about getting the rear speaker console so i can put a 6x9 speaker back there. Stock it came with a lil 6x9 sub did it not? Does anyone have a 6x9 sub in that console? I know this isn't very tech related but right now i have a 12 inch sub in my trunk that takes up to much damn space. I don't bass very much any how and was hoping i could get some input as to how you guys like having a 6x9 sub back there. Although i don't bass the **** out of my music like some people, i still like it to sound good and therefore like a decent amount of bass. Can a good amount of bass be achieved with a small 6x9 sub? Thanks ahead of time

*edit* Is it actually a "sub" that can go back there? Cause now that i think about it i didnt even know 6x9 subs existed...

Well i dont know. compared to even a small 8" sub, 6x9s cannot take that kind of power to make a deep sound. it will give you more mid to low, but not any real thumping.

I do have one in my car, but it works with the other surrounds. i am not dependent on it for bass

If you can get your hands on the discontinued Kicker 6x9 subwoofer, it can handle about 150W. It's a true sub. I have it in my car, and it bumps reasonably well if you don't push it too hard.

i do infact have that rare middle sub in my back seats. It was dead when i bought the car but i bought a 6x9 clarion bass speaker for it and replaced the other 4 speakers and the two tweeters with clarion speakers and i will tell you the sound is amazingggggg. i adjusted my speaker levels with perfect treble and bass and it does not need some huge sub in the back of my trunk. My stereo has a little sub option as well so i adjusted the levels of the bass in the seat and you can feel the rumble of the bass *not an out of control rumble that makes your car shake* and the perfectly crisp clear sound of your music. i would recommend getting a speaker for the middle and replacing all the worn out ones if any.

they make 6x9 subs.....most of them called free air subs.....but they are most all very high end speakers and will cost you a good bit.

here is an example.....http://www.shop.com/op/~Genesi...d=298

on a side note.....the center 6x9 has a crossover so putting in a regular 6x9 would still only give you the bass notes....it just wont hit as hard

I put a mid grade Sony 6x9 in there and hooked it to a small Jensen amp and it sounds good, but I can easily push it too far. I want to get one of those Kickers, but they always sell for more then I want to pay. Anyway, it doesn't compare to the two 10" MTX's I had, but it's better then just the 4 6.5" speakers

If you put in the time to seal and deaden the doors you will get good sound out of the door speakers. Most people on this forum would rather shoot you in the face then hear you talk about puting weight in their cars though.

If you want to get the best sound w/ only a 6x9 sub then go buy either a 5 channel amp(say 50x4 100x1 if you want aftermarket component speakers in the front you'll need more power then that) or buy two amps and then seal and deaden the doors. After you do that you car will sound very good even with the oem speakers.

I took out the rear speakers and I think the sound is great.

If you put a 6x9 "sub" in the back, make sure it's amplified. I don't have photos because I'm in Baghdad right now, but I have a 6x9 Infinity Kappa mounted there, and one mounted horizontally between the rear deck 6.5's. I didn't want an obtrusive sub in my trunk, and I don't desire my neighbors being pissed off at me all the time, so I amplified my two 6x9's and am very happy with the sound. With windows fully down and sunroof fully open, the music is loud and crisp at 80 on the freeway. At still, the bass noticeably complements the highs without drowning out all sound. I wholeheartedly endorse for those not looking to add a lot of weight, or clutter their trunk with traditional sub boxes.

You can also order the part new, it's just a plastic cover. I have family in American Honda (Torrance), and I paid roughly $70 for it new, but I'm not sure how much the public price is.

I've never seen an 8 inch sub there . . . I built an enclosure for a 6.5" sub and that was a tight fit:

I was thinkinking I saw an 8 put in there once. But it seems like anything larger then a 6.5 would be better off in the rear deck, but then I be that thing would vibrate like a sum bitch.

how did you mount the speaker in the console? Isn't there a bracket on the stock speaker that makes it so the screws hold in the speaker as well?

And does anyone know where I can get a 6x9 sub at? I've been searching online with little success. I've only found one that was like $400... Any help would be appreciated

yes there is a bracket, the setup consists of the bracket, then the cover with the clothed-over speaker grating.....i have had mine sitting there in my car for 2 years now dormant, i have always planned on getting a sub but have never been able to find that kicker for a good price.....may end up selling my bracket/cover.....who knows...

i just put this in my car two days ago. i bought a 93 vtec to part out, and pulled the 6x9 sub to put in my car. i have infinity kappa 6 1/2's in the doors and rear deck. i got infinity 6x9 to drop in the rear. i love it supper easy to install and a killer sound. i was just going to post the other 6x9 for sale, since i had to buy them as a pair.

You ever thought about installing a small, low-profile sub under the driver and passenger seat. This is where BMW has been mounting their subs. But, I don't know about clearance. It all depends on what seat you are using. Also it would eliminate the large box in your trunk and the trunk rattle.

Here's a link below but it's in another language.
