Three-wheelers welcome at HPDEs?
You mean like old ATC's they made back in the 80's, or 3-wheeled motorcycles like you see on the road being driven by some wanna-be harley guy?

That's the funny thing about drifting a mid-engine car. It doesn't want to... it just want to take off without spinning the tires; you really have to throw it. It's a good example of how drifting, while it looks nice, isn't the fastest way around a track. "Initial-D" and drift events seems to have convinced youth that it is.
I'd like to get a good driver drive a car around an autocross (or road-course,) one lap drifting, and one lap "normal." Maybe it would put to rest this misplace notion.

That's a big part of it, if you miss the cone with the front tire, you're guaranteed to miss it with the rear!

Geez, a bunch of comedians...
Funny the picture of the Shrike, I know the owner, know where that was taken, and who took the picture. He's likely parked right next to my Mini.
And the SUB, I got to see that too. It was built to an amazing level of fit-and-finish. Which is explained by the fact the guys who built it build concept vehicles in their "day job."
Okay, okay, just so you know, the vehicle I'm thinking about... lives, for the time being, only in my head! It would be a shame to build something and not be able to drive it in various events, which is why I asked.

Where do you think I read about both of them?

2.5. CAR (Automobile)
A self-propelled land vehicle running on four wheels, not in a
line, which shall be in contact with the ground. At least two
(2) wheels shall affect the steering and at least two (2) the
propulsion.
this + this = meets the rule
In fact, not to be totally flippant, a 'dually' rear wheel would meet the letter, and I would argue the intent, of the rule. The 4 wheel requirement is presumably in there to eliminate motorcycles and sidecar racers.

That was the SCCA Time Trials definition above that also governs their version of the HDPE, which they call a PDX.
Here's the SCCA Solo definition:
12.1 AUTOMOBILE (CAR)
A self-propelled land vehicle, running on at least four wheels, not in
a line, which must be in contact with the ground when at rest.
Don't even need the electric motor for this one.
I don't know what other organizations exclude for their track days.
