Default Tire decision help! bridgestone vs hankook

OK
i've got two choices here

Bridgestone Potenza S03

OR

Hankook Ventus Ventus R-S2 Z212

Both tires are the same price, and from my research, both are very grippy!
But the bridgestones will cost me $70 in shipping.

these will probably go on a car that will see the track, but not regularly (basically as much as my wallet will allow.. maybe only once every few months).
Most likely a weekend car also.

What would you guys recommend???
plz help me out, I need to decide asap.

some pics:
ventus

What sizes? Why not the 615s? They have a 200 treadware. Must stifer side wall then the Hanhooks. I dont know about the s03s...I've never ran them but 615s are by far better IMO then the hanooks.

azenis get kinda greasy on track though
i think MX would be a good track tire as they take a while to heat.. but when heated up they get pretty grippy... but out of those choices i like the rs2s

i'm looking at 195-50-15's specifically,
actually I was waiting on falken to come out with that size.. but they never did so i'm saying screw em. Also the s03's are on closeout sale atm, usually they're much more expensive

for a street/track car

mostly street though,
I just like how 195's look to be honest,
very picky about everything on my car really..

but I want them to perform as well as they possibly can when I am on track.

I mean, I know either choice will cream my current tires(es100's) which did the job, and actaully held up a lot better than my brakes at the last track day I went to, but we'll see.

anyhoo, I guess anyone with experience with either tire, I would luv to hear from!

hankooks are quite a bit faster than the bridgestones have ran both back to back autocrossing.

I've been running a set of 225/45-15 Hankook RS2-Z212s on my autocross CRX. The softer sidewall has not been a problem - they still grip well while being easier to turn and I haven't had any rollover problems with the amount of camber I'm running. I simply turn in slightly earlier than with stiffer tires; it's kind of like driving with a bias-ply Hoosier vs. a radial Hoosier.

While the dry and wet lateral grip are comparable to Azenis RT-615 but with better heat tolerance (though still not as much as Ecsta MX), I have not been impressed by their braking and treadwear characteristics. I plan to switch back to the 205/50-15 Azenis for next season; I get much better tread life and less flat-spotting from Azenis for less money. Keep in mind though, I did not shave them and started with full tread depth. Most autocrossers are shaving them to 4/32" or less.

The 195/50-15 Azenis are slated for November, but you'd be an idiot to buy them over the 205/50-15s anyway. The larger tire will have more heat capacity, which is definitely a good thing.

If you want tire advice for your street car, post in the Wheel and Tire forum. This thread does not belong in the Road Race/Autocross forum. You obviously aren't serious about them "performing as well as they can on track" because you seem to be more concerned with the looks than you are with getting a decent tire. If you want to stare at hot JDM y0! cars, go to the Appearance/Cosmetic forum.

haha, yeah it was,
but I expected no less.

targa:
I road race my car,
the tires will see the track,
thus this post goes in here.

if you want to be rude and try to be the forum ****, that's your deal

if you think I care a lot about how my car loooks, well you're damn right, and i'm not ashamed to admit it.

but I care about how it performs as well, you might say I want the best of both worlds. And yes i'm willing to take a performance hit with the 195's over the 205's

but if I can get the best 195 tire for track use, thats' what i'll do, which is why I made this post.

Hmm, yeah I guess I wouldn't consider track days road racing, haha oh well, maybe wheel/tire would be a better spot. But yeah, forum ****'s just annoy me is all.

In Tad's defanse, his post does specificaly mention he wants something that is atleast better than your everyday 300+ treadwear tire. So he does want some performance. There's nicer ways to say things..

BTW Targa, you run 615s and street tires on your CRX in CSP? I dont get it. I'm not tying being rude; but if you are, you are out of line for telling Tad what to do about grip. Maybe you run multiple cars.? If so then your signiture does not indicate so..

(see? An example of calling someone out and not being rude about it. Still friendly mature conversation)..

I would wait till November and get the Azenis RT-615 in 195/50-15.

If you can't wait, I would get the S-03 over the Z212. But I would get the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 over either one. $40 rebate offer on the Goodyear expires next weekend...

Lol, what is that? somekinda new sissy JDM skinny tire look?

Slap some 225-45-15s Kooks on 15x8s on that biatch and it will stick AND look badass.

hah,

daimond racing wheels are so cheap, they're a good option

For street tires (and we ARE talking about street tires here), I would stick to the size that's closest to your stock tires in outer diameter. If you have a CRX, del sol, or pre-'96 Civic, that's 195/50-15. If you have an Integra or '97-00 Civic, it's 195/55-15 or 205/50-15.

I've run the same set of Hankooks for almost a year on the street and track and I'm very happy with them. I'm surprised Targa isn't happy with the treadwear characteristics. I'd recommend them in a second for your purposes.
