Default Motorcycle Price

Hi.. I need help with the same thing..
I rode a 500cc a long time ago, and I just LOVE the feeling that a bike gives u..
I'm 18/19, and a lot of ppl tell me to get a 600+ to start with, but after reading everything on this forum I decided to start with a 250 or 500 tops..
I live in MASS and I only have a permit.. I'm looking for a 250cc bike(USED USED), I already tried local ads, internet, thewantad magazine and stuff and I just CANT find anything that costs less than 3000+. I just bought a new car, and I have a lot of bills to pay, but I STILL think that this is the right time to get a new bike.. Do you guys know if I can pay the bike with a credit card?
Please Advise..

P.S: Gear First or Bike first ? (to match colors and stuff.. lol)

OK.. Found a 01' Suzuki GS500
"V-Twin, dk blue. Only 375 miles. Exc Cond. Never dropped. Not a scratch on it. $3000. "

And another one.
02' Kawasaki 500R Ninja
"Incredible shape. Only 4100 miles. Female owned. Always maint & never ridden hard. Always garaged & covered. You won't find a bike in this shape for sale vy often. A great 1st or 2nd bike for anyone. Fun to Ride.
$3200; Serious inqs only."

Those are the only 2 bikes that i found here.. And I found one 250' for $3K .. But you can get it for 3K NEW.. So..

What do you guys think about the prices?
Thanks

Budget in gear and insurance before you look to buy a bike.

I doubt someone will let you buy a motorcycle with a credit card if you are 18.

I'm 18 also and I started riding about a year and a half ago on a Ninja 250. It was an 01 with 6k miles on it...I got it for $1,800. Sold it 4 months later for $2,200.

So, buy used, invest in gear, and take the MSF if you haven't already. (not only helps improve your riding but saves you on insurance as well)

A new car and you want to buy a bike on a credit card? I commend your choice to take it easy but if you're looking to charge a bike you're just plain retarded. Take a deep breath, save some cash over the next 6 months and then look again. Bikes will be cheaper, you might be able to secure a loan and you'll likely be able to save enough cash for gear and insurance. Anything less than that and you're just being irresponsible.

i did it with my first bike ('95 GS500e). Waited till my paycheck and paid it all off before the month was over . It wasn't that much though and sometimes you just need to get it quickly (bought within 40 minutes of his Craigslist posting). Paypal FTW!

if you plan on putting it on your CC and having to pay it off over a year or something, then yes, it's not a smart financial/credit decision.

i think the prices you listed are still kinda high - wait a couple months and they'll drop

An interest free loan is one thing but I get the feeling that he'd be riding a balance on the card at what's probably 18% APR.

god...i hope no one carry's a huge balance on an 18%apr CC - that'll be damn near impossible to get out of...

gear - definitely (helmet, jacket, gloves - minimum IMO)

couldn't hurt to get them to match (i wouldn't try to match a bike's color, but that's just me)

i like having a black/white 'theme' for what i wear and that'll go with almost any bike

Sadly, much of America carries balances on cards that are commonly ~15% APR. Cash advances are almost always higher and it's unlikely he would find a used bike where it wouldn't be an advance. Even an advance as low as $2000 at 18% will take over a year to pay off @ $150/month.

Here's a good calculator to help you figure out how long it'll take to pay off a certain balance.

yes.. but i just got a new cc with 0%apr for one year.. 5K limit, thats why i was thinking about buying it, before i would have 1 year to pay it.. and
0% APR.
The problem is.. I'll have to buy a bike from a dealer cause nobody will take a cc

Well.. Winter is coming, and I don't know yet where to storage it..
So thanks for the advice, I'll just wait for th middle of the winter or next summer

exactly - that's how i bought my first bike. i paypal-ed with a credit card, but i had to add 3% due to the paypal fee for the seller to accept the transaction. A LOT of people, especially if they're advertising on the internet should have a paypal account.

i'd be careful with that CC too. I thought i had 0% for a year on my CC as well, so i went on a spending spree (my first cc - i was a moron). The balance built up and i quickly found out that it wasn't the case. Read that agreement carefully.

Call the credit card company and request checks.

Best off getting a motorcycle loan from a local bank or credit union, their interest rates would probably be lower than your credit card.. Then you can buy a motorcycle from a owner too..

don't finance your first bike.

making payments on a pile of parts sucks. first bikes are more likely to end up crashed, or at the least dinged up.

also, lack of motorcycle saavy makes it harder to part out that pile of parts.

save up a 2.5k, get yourself a cheap used bike. I see used GS500's go for mid to low teens often enough to make it realistic to get one for that price. spend the grand you have left on good gear.
