ZC DOHC engine swap question
Sup fellas, do you guys know if its necessary to pull the tranny out when doing an engine swap? I have an 89 CRX Si and im replacing the motor with a ZC DOHC. I just want the swap to be quick hehe ty all. Also do you recommend turbo on the ZC DOHC ?
I personally find it easier to go ahead and pull the transmission w/ the motor. The problem you run into if you don't is getting the input shaft lined up properly with the transmission. Pretty difficult to do when the motor is hanging from a chain. Just put the chain on with the right side shorter and it'll pull it up and out with tranny and all. Then just bolt the transmission onto the ZC and drop her in.
Honestly. Pull the whole thing. So easy to swap transmission over. I mean, you can spend the extra 30 minutes taking the suspension apart and pulling the shafts, and the extra 30 minutes to pull the engine with tranny out (but with such a small engine it should be easy) and then it will take you 15 minutes to swap clutch and tranny over. Or, you can fumble and break your back and lay under a suspended part, that if it would let go would kill you, for adleast a good 30-45 minutes trying to get the input shaft in.
I would yank the whole thing.

pulling the motor is ALOT esaiser than being undr the motor tryng to get that input shaft. and rishing breaking your boots on the axles.
it only takes about 30 mins. if you know what you are doing. to get the car in the air and motor on the ground. if its your first one take your time... till you know the bolts. but pop the tranny out. itl save you in the long run.
you will have to tilt the tranny down and push the motor onto the input shaft. and its a tad bit heavy.
