VX Rally car progress
We've been at this for a while, but we've finally assembled enough of the car to run shakedown, rallyX and autoX (tarmac) runs on our rally project. Here are the specs:
Engine/trans:
K20A2
Filter on a stick
DC swap header (Not ideal)
2.5" exhaust
KPro
4.78 FD
Exedy stage 1 clutch
LSD
Suspension/brakes:
Hotbits Rally spec coilovers with comp. and rebound
Energy bushings
Skunk 2 uppers
Ingalls rears
Brembo blanks f&r
Del Sol VTEC f&r brakes
We're going to do the cage this winter for a debut in the 2007 Canadian Regional rally championship.
Here are some of the pics, the dyno sheet and the suspension.

The office:

The front shot:

The powerplant:

Side shot with power steering:

Hotbits coilovers (Rotten's suggestion)

Dyno sheet of before and after:

In action with the stock motor:

We have run this in the 1/4, and ran a 13.2 @ 104.
I just wanted to share this, because we plan on building a VERY good Group 2 rally car.
Share your thoughts, we always like to hear from everyone.
Best regards,

yeah I would be interseted in seeing how much ground clearance you have, And what your skid plate design will be like.

We have decent ground clearance, and we can raise the car an additional 2" up from its tarmac height. What we have tossed around is running a cromoly bar mounted to the tow hook bolt, with a skid plate attached to that, and the front and rear cross members. This will protect the pan, while also offering something else for the car to deflect off of before striking the pan.
Rally is a great motorsport, and my personal favorite. After I started, I found autoX kind of boring, as you don't get the sheer entertainment value as well as the creative element that you do on gravel.

His license plate says AWD so I was wondering how he did it.

The Hotbits are EXCELLENT!
We run 205/50/15 Yoko A032R's for Tarmac and transit, Hoosier A3S05's for autoX, and 185/65/14 Yokohama A035 gravel tires. We may upgrade to a larger size of tire, depending on how traction limited it is this Sunday.

In mud, it's not about traction, it's wheel speed v. lug profile. The more gunk you move, the faster it pushes you the other way.
Good luck with finishing the car, the inside is going to be a pain. I am particularly impressed with the K20 attempt.

We shot the bushings in the front after only one tarmac (autox) event. Just fixed them up, and it is now much less sketchy.
I think we may have to run a Subaru sized gravel tire in a 15", but we'll see tomorrow. I'll post some pics of the rallyX.

Please do, rallyX is something i've been thinking of doing for a long time.

It's rad beyond belief!
Last event, I had use of two of my friends Subaru's, both fully prepped stage cars. AWD is cheating, so we'll see how Group 2 does tomorrow.
You can also rallyx your street car, but don't have it too low...

Yea i'd love to rallyX my sti, but i've seen how easily the paint falls off the front bumper. I'm just considering picking up a 2.5rs.
