Default lightweight crank pulley -good or not so good?

i know obx is not very good stuff but i have an account with them and i buddy of mine offered to buy me something from them if i order him some stuff at cost o my obx account.the only thing i can see that i would be interested in is pullies.their new pulleys look identical to aem's i dont know if they are making them for obx or maybe just a knock off.i had some aem pullies before and did not like the effect on my alternator or even the steering for that matter but how about the crank pulley?i have heard bad things about vibration and idle quality with the a/c on.also i have a clutchmasters flywheel that has already lightened the crankshaft.do any of you have any experience with these or especially one of these with a flywheel?all input will be greatly appreciated.

Are these solid one piece units? If so this is usually bad news on high revving motors.

the alternator and power steering pump pulleys are pretty good and look exactly like AEM's. they are worth it compared to AEM's.

i'm not sure about any crank pulley without the rubber harmonic balancer........so i would be carful about that.........

stay away from the aftermarket crank pulley. If has no harmonic balancer, this will lessen your motor's life from the vibration. You can pick up a set of AEM under drive pulley's for about a hundred bucks if you look hard enough... why settle for the lesser quality OBX? I am YET to see an OBX product that I considered high quality. AEM's quality is proven. Why trust the integrity of your car to such a flaky product?

PS- What was it you didn't like about the AEM pullies? The only time I ever notice the alternator pulley is when I'm sitting at a stop light at night with the radio blaring b/c the headlights get slightly dimmer... not very noticeable though. I ditched my power steering so I couldn't tell you how it effects that, but i have a friend with them on his integra and another friend with them on his gsr and the steering feels just as it did before unless you've engine is idling and your car isn't moving.... then it's just a tiny bit harder. but.... you should never turn your wheel unless your moving so this wouldn't matter.

the only thing i didnt like about the AEM pullies was the price.

for the ammount of power you gain from these it wasnt worth the money at all.

if you were to take a good look at the OBX under drive pullies and compare them to the AEM pullies you will notice NO diffrence in quality at all. they both are CNC machined from the same 6061-T6 aluminum they are the same size, fit and finish. one says AEM and the other say OBX and they both come with the same high quality belts.

must be nice for you americams to pay "only 100 bucks" for AEM pullies because here in canada i paid over 200 for mine when i could have had OBX pullies for about $100

personally i kinda like some of the products OBX makes. i have a couple of strut bars and short shifter made by them and i think they are great qualitly for the price......

I am really hoping you are kidding. The quality of OBX products is second to..... all. I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that the OBX shifter is a POS b/c it's made of aluminum that weakens when exposed to heat... coming from the exhaust specifically... which is why they tend to snap. or that the strut tie bars are so weak that they can be bent with little or no effort. i'm just gonna say "it's your car and your're money"

Dude relax he never said everything they make is good, he stated that after comparing the competitions products he feels that some of OBX's pieces are worth the money. If two pullies are made from an identical metal and produced in the same why, why not go for the cheaper one?

i did not like the aem pullies i had because i live in louisiana and it is always hot even in december sometimes and i always run my a/c.with the alternator pully at idle the blower motor seems to blow about half as had as it does when you rev.i had them on a 96 ex and the steering got noticeably harder to me.thanks for all the input though i may just get a fuel rail or something instead.

as someone said, any aftermarket crank pulley without a harmonic balancer will wear down your bearings much much faster. personally I'd stay away.

Didn't think about the A/C.... I've never used my A/C since I usually just open up the windows and sunroof. It's not as hot in NC as it is in your area though... I can definatly see why for you that wouldn't be a good mod to have. As for the PS, I've never driven a civic with an under drive pulley so I can't really help there. Good luck with whatever you choose though. I'd really suggest you stay away from the crank pulley though... your bearings will definatly suffer, and when they go out, they don't go alone. good luck
