Going to my first 1/4 mile event; any pointers....
This Saturday I'm meeting up with a bunch of guys from my area to go down to the opening day of our local 1/4 mile track.
This will be my first time dragging ANY car on a track. Trial and Error will be the order of the day, but I was wondering if you guys can give me any other pointers. I was gonna lower my tire pressure (25-30 psi to start). I'm also gonna leave my spare tire and jack at home, along with everything that isn't bolted down (CDs, and other assorted crap).
I'm hoping to get at least 3 runs (don't really know what to expect). Also, the track was apparetnly just paved and might be a little slick.
All I know is that if I don't get a 15.9 or less, I'mm just gonna keep on driving until I hit a wall!

Launch is the most important thing.
What you want to do is launch at a pretty high rpm. Even though some people say you will spin, this is the CORRECT way to do it. You want to launch right under your peak torque rpm.
When you go, you want to go right on the last yellow light, not the green one. Then slip the clutch fast. Don't drop it, you want to slip it out rather quickly. Too fast, and you'll spin. Too slow and you'll bog. This is the hardest part of any drag race.
Practice in a parking lot so you can see what I'm talking about.
Here are a few tips I have heard, that I haven't tried yet:
1. Keep your vent to heat, but don't turn on the fan. This will pull hot air out of the engine bay.
2. Roll slightly past the staging area. Like only a foot. Then put it in reverse until you just make the two lights turn on. Then stay put!! Don't roll. If you don't have an LSD, this will lock the front two axles, so when you go, both wheels will get power at the same time.
3. Don't go with a full tank of gas. 13gallons of liquid is very heavy.
Don't set your goals on any time yet. That 15.9 number is just a number and practice is key. Don't be surprised if your first ever run is 16.5. But then again, it can very easily be 14.3.
Good luck and post your times.

do what shamoo says. i do pretty much the same thing and i hit 2.1 60 ft's.
i have never heard of doing this though...maybe ill try it the next time i go to the track.

GSR has an LSD stock? Please provide proof I would love to see it.
That trick does not work. GSR does not have a lsd, it just has a regular differential that will probably spin only one tire. Didn't you see people with regular gsr's turning their wheel back and forth during a burn out, they are trying to make both tires spin.
