It's really going to come down to looks, both perform really well and I think they are both going to sit aggressively.

what do you mean all around riding? Everyday riding? If its for everyday riding, the R1 would be much more comfortable, to me at least.

But if I had to pick between the 2 I'd still take the RC, cus I could care less about comfort...It's a Sportbike...If you want comfort get a cruiser or a tourer.

For reliability, you cant go wrong with either Honda or yamaha. Though hondas do tend to depreciate a lot faster

sound of vtwins leading the pack at VIR during the AMA Superbike race was a sound i wont forget, caught me off guard too, was expecting all high pitchness . oh and one of my friends is about to sell his 900RR for an RC51, and another is turboing his R1

nah dude i dont like the sound of v-twins like rc51s, ducs, TL1000Rs, etc, they have a deep sound to them and i prefer the more high pitch sound of the 4 Cylinder bikes, my opinions have nothing to do performance wise, because if that was the case i would rather have more torque but thats not the case i dont wanna be the fastest on the streets

If you check insurance on new R1 it comes back as a race replica also I checked.

If you want to compare, then you need to be looking @ v-twins or in-line 4s against each other. The in-lines will always take the v-twins with equal riders and bikes, especially in the straits. The twins are gaining ground, but then again, so are the inline machines. If your riding style is strait or stunt, in-line/openclass is the way to go. If you are strictly a curve carver, vtwin would be ok.

I would also look at insurance..... The r1 is on the insurance top 10 for being stolen and wrecked. It is a high risk and carries high premiums.......

I love the look of the rc51, the sound of the rc51, and being a honda man I am a little biased. Both bikes are very capable. Just depends on what you like the looks of, and what feels more comfortable to YOU.

(Subliminal Message) ***Get the honda.... Get the honda..... Get the honda....*****

This concludes your honda brainwashing session

Best of luck with what you choose. Make sure you get a matching helmet and jacket to save you pretty hide in case $hit happens.

I don't agree 100%, most modern twins aren't giving up anything to inline bikes, excluding the R1, gix1000, Busa's of the world. Any of the liter twins with a decent rider will just destroy any 600. Also, twins tend to respond big time to mods, therefore, you see most twins with more than just a set of pipes bolted on, let me tell you, a modded TLR or RC is no joke, even to the liter inline boys.

I doubt many people are going to be raping every last bit of performance out of the bike so I wouldn't buy one strictly based on performance.
How can you not like the sound of a V-twin? I drove buy a RC51 the other day*spooge*It had full pipes and damn did it sound badass. I personally like the styling on the RC51 and R1 the same. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that there are nearly twice the R1s built than RC51s. Being unique is a good think if you ask me So, if you want to be "popular" go with the R1. If you're going to mod it, take tight corners, want to be original, and like the deaper sounding exhaust then go with the RC51 just my $.02 (Forgive me if I wasn't completely accurate)

close enough for me The RC51 is about as hard to find around here as an R1. Seen one 51 and nada R1s. Thirty two RC51s were stolen in a Ft. Worth train yard off a container car last month, so supplies are low here.

I've seen 1 RC51 and about 8 different R1s last month. But there are also R6s that look just like R1s so some people won't be able to tell the difference unless they really know what they are looking at or look really close.

i can tell the difference between an R1 and R6 from a mile away!! R6 has that little ram air thing between the headlights, different taillights and different tail section, not to mention it says R6 and R1s have the two circular taillights and a more round tail section and the head lights look way cooler and more aggressive, yep just thought i would share
