Norcal Honda Challenge at Thunder hill
Saturday was HOT. Warm-up went well, tested one last tire pressure change which yielded good results. Due to the hot weather I was late to the Qualifying session and that put me into traffic. My times showed the lack of clean laps and I was 3 seconds off my pace. This put me in 5th place for the starting grid. For the race we aligned ourselves for the standing start, green flag dropped and we were off. I got a good start and by turn 1 was in third place and closing on second. By turn 2, I was on the tail of second and he was on the tail of first. After a couple of laps the P2 (Midnight performance1) car made an attempt to pass the P1 (Mike L) car into turn 10. This gave me a chance to get around both cars and take over the lead! After a several lap battle and going nose to tail around the track I made a mistake and was overtaken into turn 6. I kept the pressure on but we were approaching traffic and the passing attempts were harder to make happen. Checker flag flew and came in second by less than 1/2 of a second.
Sunday was not as hot, but hot enough. The car was checked over, fluids were topped off and the car was ready to go. No changes for warm-up were made and lap times were steady. Not to make the same mistake as the previous day I headed down to pre-grid very early for qualifying and was the first out on track. With mostly open track I was able to put down a good time and secure 2nd place on the starting grid. Due to a technical infraction the car that qualified first was disqualified and sent to the back of the back putting me on pole for the start! Race time and the green flag dropped for another standing start and I was off with another great start. By turn 2, I had stretched into a decent lead and kept it going strong for several laps. The car that got disqualified came charging into my mirrors. After several lead swaps and very aggressive driving I could not hold off the car, down Thunderhill's long straights. I pushed hard, and another second place was mine.
With two strong second place finishes, I am very pleased with the results and have already planed to make some minor changes to help make the car perform better!

Looks like fun Brian! You have got some motor in that car, but not enough to hang with Donna it seems. That car just "pulls" down the straights!
Keep up the good work!

It's okay Andrie, we know that H1 is cool, much cooler than some of those other classes - maybe even H4 - but you know that to get more cars than H4 on a consistent basis you're going to need to sell someone's sole to the devil. If only this guy or that guy showed up to any given race, sure, the car count for H1 might exceed that of H4, but for how long?
Hey Andrie, you have a nice H4 car (well its a street car now, but in a few days it could be a nice competitive H4 rig) so what'd you say about joining in on the real fun.

To all the H4 racers that made it out to T-hill, it was fun to race door to door again. The next race is in OCT! I guess who is down to hit up Lemans Karting?

I wish I had a motor (well a built one). It is still the original "junk yard" motor.

shoot, I would've been there, but as my car sits right now, I have no engine nor suspension. And the car has to be in a truck in 2 weeks for nationals!? I'll be cutting it close...again-as always.
but my H4 car is coming along great! too bad I'm not racing it yet.

Wow, that is amazing. You were pulling on Mike pretty good.
I might need to build a DC in the future then!
If your junk yard motor is that quick, I can't imagine how fast a fully built DC will be!

Hey Johnny Mac,
you know me well
I know you are right. This is a chicken and egg, thing. H1 needs more people to succeed.
In all seriousness, I think H4 has great competition. H1, too, if all the top runners shows up. I'm willing to bet, any of the top runner H1, would still be a top runner if they jump to H4. Look at Flaherty. This goes the same way with H4 drivers thinking of jumping to H1. In most cases, in racing It is the indian, not the arrow.
That being said, I enjoy speed, buildind and tinkering with cars, in addition of competition. I love the challenge going to drawing board each weekend, trying to figure out what can I do within the confine of the rules to make the car faster. If I have the money to build an HU car, I would.

Its all about exit speed...
To be honest the ECU is tuned (altho gains were minimal). That motor is putting out 139hp at the wheels (I believe the two dynos were dynojets)

My motor is a very healthy but stock 91 b18a, with stock enigne managment too. One of these days I'll build a motor and get it tuned.
