b18 set up
im thinking of going with this set up. but since its the first engine im going to build i wanted to ask u guys first! im thinking b18b bottom block, b18 crank, b18 rods, type r pistons, and gsr head??? im thinking of getting around 12.5:1 comp ratio. or of going with about the same set up but with b20 block, b20 crank & rods! what do you guys think??? will i be able to use 91 octane because i heard that after 12.0:1 ratio i need racing fuel????
B20 block crank and rods are the same as LS to my knowledge except b20 is 3mm bigger in bore so you can't fit ITR pistons in it. you're only limited to 3 OEM pistons b20a, b, and z. if you decide to go with the b20 get the Z pistons or buy aftermarket high compression ones. with a good tune @ 12.5:1 you might be able to run 94 octane but nothing lower.
i got 10.22:1 with b20 block rods and crank and b20z slugs under a gsr head. that'll allow you to run 91.

Depends on the engine management and tune. Don't expect to throw all this together and have it run fine off stock fuel and ignition maps. You need to have it tuned. You should also think about some ITR cams to take advantage of the higher compression.
I don't know where you got 12.5:1 compression with that combo. I calculated it out and it is around 11.2:1 with USDM ITR pistons and 11.6:1 with JDM ITR pistons.

i got the calculations from Zeal Auto werks honda compression calculator. so do you guyz think i should go with a b20 or b18?? im going to need this car daily, so at what comp ratio should i build at???

i think low 11's will allow you to run 91 but, again, it all depends on the tune. if you're using it daily i would keep it in the low 11's but if you're wallet is thick enough to pay for the expensive addiction your motor will have than do more
come on guyz i need help. im trying to go n/a!!! i had a 97 trans am ws6 and i was running a 13.8 1/4 mile, it got stolen only had liability, so now i have 96 integra ls, i want to build something strong, i have about 2Gs to get me close to that time! i need it for a daily driving also! so should i build a b18 or b20??
Your compression and tune dictate what octane you can run. If you get a good tune then you can run 91. As far as you asking this question here, not a good idea for NA guys, seeing as how alot of the people in this forum are boosted. Go to the all motor section and ask there. You should get better results. I myself am going NA and plan to have 11.5:1-12:1 for daily with dyno and street tune on crome with 93 pump. Good luck man.

about 10 cents more then 91

if you really want to go all motor, i suggest you buy a head package from gude performance. i did and got 55hp to the wheels and an 11:1:1 compression with stock bottom end. i would run the b20 block and get the head package from gude. with the head package and hedder, exhaust, intake and a fuel pressure regulator, i was able to take down my friends stock jdm integra type r by a fender, but still i got the win.
if you decide to get the head package here is what it comes with: bored out throttle body to i think 62 or 65mm, a honed, port matched intake manifold, ported and polished head with 3 angle vavle job, cams and a remapped ecu w/ no rev limiter. the head package runs about 1500.00. use the b18b1 head not the b20. you could also stuff some type r pistons in the b18b1 block if you decide to go with that block.
with my set up im using the b18b1 block with pr3 pistons and the head package now. havent hit the stip yet to get a new time, but with the pr3 pistons i should get another 20-25 horsepower in line with the head package.
good luck.

Well we have 87 89 and 93 they go up .10 for each grade. Right now it is 2.79 2.89 and 2.99.

Everywhere in middle Tennessee, if you go up north towards Pittsburgh you can get the 3 I listed along with 94.

I didn't say come here for 93, you asked where you can get and I answered. It's been along time since I was in Cali, but I don't think they have 93. At least not at every gas station.
