Rip-off or no?
I just got a price quote from about the only performance shop in town that has a dyno. I asked them how much to tune my S-AFC and cam gears. They told me it would need to be on the dyno for two hours at the most, and the total charge would be around $365.00. I thought this was pretty high since I paid $330 for the S-AFC and $270 for the cam gears. Is this a high price? Any input is appreciated.
Hmmmmm for 2 hours worth of dynoin down here only cost $100/hr so u decide
Could be different from where you live and shop I guess. Geez $270 for those str cam gears??? Ouch! A few more bucks u coulda got Toda

If they're doing the tuning work... 2 hours, figure shop rate of 70 that's 140, that leaves another 225 for use of the dyno, Setup is expensive, 125 for the set up, 100 for an additional hour... Seems a touch high, it depends on how good the guys are...

hate to say but you got ripped off on all your items. You could get a brand new vafc for $300 and probably get a new/used set of cam gears for $100-200. As for the dyno, if the shop has a good rep for doing precision tuning, its worth to pay the extra to get it done right. But if you can, find another place cause dyno's shouldnt cost more than $300 for 2 hours. Good luck
Thanks for all the info guys. Here is what I found out...they charge $75 for a dyno tuning fee, $40 for an oxygen sensor fee, and $125 per hour on the dyno. This would equate out to $250 for two hours, plus the other fees ends up to equal $365. I decided to go through with it because they are one of the most reputable shops on the east coast and I have friends that work there. As for the guy who got JUN gears for $100, where in the world did you get a price like that? That's the best deal I've every heard of.
b18 c1 d2R,
I figure that your dyno time for cams, gears and V-AFC will be approximately 2.5-3.5 hours. Be sure to post your whp numbers when you get them, that sounds like a potentially powerful setup you've got.
