Default Weird starting problem

When cold the engine often "sputters" to life, usually after an extended cranking period (like 3-4 seconds after turning the key)....when the car starts the rpms slowly climb from what seems like 0 up to a rough 700-750 rpms, very slowly until the car sputters to life. I try not to give it too much gas because there's no oil pressure but if I do it right as it begins to fire on its own it starts up much better.
After idling a few moments the car idles stabily. When the car is warm it starts perfectly, without hesitation or sputter. Thanks.

Check your engine coolant temperature sensor, if its failing it could be giving the ecu the wrong signal at start up.
