1990 Acura Integra GS Surging/High Idle
I have a 1990 Acura Integra GS 1.8L, and for some reason when I start it up it shoots up to about 3200rpm
. What can possibily cause this?! I have changed all the air lines. Throttle body is in good shape and everything is OEM except the C.A.I.
But let me take you back 3 months ago..
The car would surge from 1500-3500rpm.. then we changed out the TPS sensor..
We had the light checked and at the time my friend owned the car so he figured this would be the best route..
(I know that you think it cannot be done because its riveted to the throttle body, but we came up with one and then we cut the rivets off the old one tapped threads and used screws and washers to put the newer one in...)
Now its stuck @ 3200rpms.
I just want to get this car to start properly, any ideas on what I should do?
Thank you,
Shady

Alot of people dont recommend changing the idle with the 'idle screw' because it's set from the factory and you should never have to touch it but what the hell.
There is a slotted screw directly above the intake tube with some white rubbery coating on it. Scratch the coating off and run that screw in a couple turns. This should drop the idle. I dont know if it will drop it to 800 but its worth a try. If it runs rough at lower rpms it's probably because the Idle air control valve or the fast idle valve. Take the fast idle valve off (it's under the throttle body 3 bolts with a coolant hose). Take the end off the valce (2 bolt) and tighten the large plug inside with a nickel or a big screwdriver. Put it back together and see if that helps.

I've had this problem for over 3 years.. I've read all the teg tips on g2ic.com and I'm still stuck.
I got PowerFC on my car now and I was able to get the car to idle at 900 but I had to really lean the motor out.. I'm talking 18:1 + at idle...

I also heard funky ideling could be caused or could play a part in it by having a cloged PCV valve on the intake manifold.
Vacume leak is also a big possibility like BrianZ stated. Not sure if this would even matter, but check the throttle body flap to make sure it's not gunked up and getting stuck in a position or not closing all the way. I'm thinking this is a very slim possibility, but it is possible
