Default battery relocation

after an hour of searching various boards about a DIY battery relocation kit, I still have some questions that need to be answered.

I don't wanna buy the Summit kit because I heard it's crappy. I already have my own box from Walmart, but where do you guys get your 2 gauge positive battery wire from?

The Home Depot wire is about $1.50/ft and is not very flexible at all.

Everyone is saying go to my local audio shop and get the wire, but the ones I've checked want a grip.

So where can I get flexible 2 gauge wire online for cheap? TIA

Why do you need power wires that large? 4 guage is more than enough for most car audio applications. But, anyways...Here's a website: http://www.monstercable.com Also, I'd check out an Optima Yellowtop battery from http://www.optimabatteries.com

I'm not sure, I've read to use 2 gauge or bigger. Some use 0 gauge. The Summit kit comes with 2 gauge so that's why. Also, wouldn't 4 gauge get pretty hot?

You could get welding cable locally, or you could try partsexpress.com

power wire doesn't get hot.. its the ground wire that create's heat if not properly seated to the body of the car.. also if your ground wire is too long.. longer then 18' inches it will cause heat....

4 gauge is plenty good for rerouting your battery... anything bigger is just a plain waist... I've been installing car stereo's for years and 4 gauge is all you really need unless you're running something like 8/ 15" subs in your mini-van.. lol... try searching on ebay for a amp wiring kit.. it comes with 4 gauge and some other things. but you can find a kit for around 40 bucks.. and that will give you wire to move your battery and have the option of hooking up a sub/amp to your system later down the road... thats just my opinion.. :D

would it be harder to start the car with 4 gauge wire as opposed to 2 gauge?

Do you care to elaborate on this mentality? Why is 18" an industry standard for max length of ground cable? What are people to do with battery posts on the firewall?

you just ground it anywhere on the chassis in the trunk and remove the engine bay ground
