crazy temp gauge
i had the same problem and thought it was something small, and later blew a crack the size of the grand canyon in the head, so dont keep driving it for one....but the sending unit or the thermostat could be the problem....get a good test light or multi-meter and start checking wiring....start small and work your way up man....good luck
Check your grounds especially the one thats on the thermostat housing I think its a 10mm bolt. If anything take it off sand both the ground and the place where it sits.

9 chances out of 10 if the cooling fan is coming on, the t stat isnt stuck closed, the coolant is topped off and there is no air in the cooling system and you are still overheating you have a blown headgasket. Pull your plugs and see if they smell sweet, like burnt coolant. If so its time for a headgasket.

Where is this one located ?

I had that problem and am currently still fixing it
I did a swap (d16a6) and ofcourse 100km later I start overheating, I knew I was full on fluids and my mechanical water temp gauge (aftermarket) was reading 130 (pinned to bottom)
Ofcourse, my thermostat was stuck and my car was overheating, I drove it like this for 5 days or so (small trips I dont really go anywhere)
And one day I reached and grabbed my lower rad hose, cold as expletive and water was bubling in my overflow......
My rad has since started a small leak and I literally just patched it, hopefully I didnt pooch a headgasket
I also removed the thermostat completely

mine does this sometimes too.
randomly the guage spikes to hot.
Usually a small tap on the clear cluster lense brings it back down to normal readings.
then a few minutes later it spikes again. tap tap back to normal.

I have exactly the same problem... hope someone will find a solution...
i checked all grounds and the sensors but without a result...
maybe my car alarm has something to do with it, but i'am not sure now

i had the same problem a few months ago. i changed all the temp sending units and still no luck. so finally i switched out the Autozone Thermostat with an OEM Honda thermostat and that solved the problem. also, make sure you bleed the cooling system well. make sure you dont have oil in the coolant either... thats a blown HG, which creates air pockets and wierd temp readings. good luck
