oh forsure then its the oiled cotton filters im getting, is there any risk of engines life with putting the medal piping instead of rubber and do cotton filters hold out all dirt ? or somewhat just more then foams ?
The metal vs. rubber pipping won't affect anything. What I'd suggest is to get a K&N cone filter. Most filters from those cheap 'performance' brands like Ractive are junk and filter and flow like crap. The foam filters usually flow better than cotton filters but like the first guy said, they don't filter out as much dirt and I've also heard some people say that over time the foam can start to crumble or whatever and get pieces sucked into the engine.
K&N doesnt give sound though huh ? i will probably use the rubber piping its best to stay safe and use what they give you ahha, do you guys think i should put a cover over the airfilter i buy im not all about performance here i jstu wanna get a lil better sound then the stock.
there is a lot of who is better than who in terms of filters. K&N is good. so is AEM. but after I saw this and ran an Apexi filter I was hooked. I would try them out if you can afford it. I have tried AEM and an HKS foam filter not a whole lot happens.

Any cone filter will sound louder than stock. If you're just looking for louder soud, then you can do it for free by removing the stock airbox and just leaving the stock filter and stock pipe (the stock filter is actually a cone filter). It sounds nice and doesn't whistle (only sometimes a tiny bit, really quietly) like the aftermarket cone filters do.
About what Solscud007 said, AEM used to use K&N filters when they were a new company. Now that they have gained a good reputation and everything, they have switched over to some cheaper filter which I heard is crappy, but that's not from experience so I don't really know, just saying what I heard.
You don't have to worry about anything happening by switching your stock piping out for an aftermarket metal pipe. It'll give you better flow, and be louder which is what you said you want.

I just wanted to add, its not the filter that whistles. Its the throttle body at partial opening, and the airflow across it is what whistles. Whether or not the intake and filter block out that sound would entirely depend on size, material, and shape, but the sound is always present even if you can't hear it.
To the original poster, don't pay attention to the horsepower claims, especially with tests showing filters within a couple of hp or each other. You can get 5% differences between dyno runs on the same car under identical conditions, so a 1 hp difference between filters is meaningless dyno variance. What the tests don't measure, is the transient throttle responce improvements that a good filter and less restrictive intake provides.
I personally use a K&N (older AEM CAI came with it), and I trust K&N to release a quality product.

Hmm I never knew that. When I had the stock filter on the stock intake arm I could barely if at all ever hear it whistle and now that I have a K&N cone filter on that same stock intake arm, it whistles pretty loud. I don't see how that'd work if it was just the throttle body? I don't think the filter can quiet it down that much.
Also about the K&N price, you should be able to get one for around $40 or $45.

My intake actually whistled at the airbox on my 02 monte carlo. The K&N Kit came with a gasket for the airbox but I didn't use it.
I've heard of and seen alot of problems with K&N Filters on MAF cars because people tend to over oil them and the oil gets caked in the MAF. I've used K&N's in all my cars and will always use them. WHen they get dirty just get a filtercharger kit and clean em out.
For K&N!

what about these filters what do u guys think does it give loud sound ? should i buy or no ?

This is how I run, normally with the airbox lid in place, just had it off to show the filter

Been running the same K&N air filter since 2001, since before I even joined H-T

I have a comptech filter. I clean it every oil change. 3-4k miles. I trust it more than K&N. My dirt bike has a foam filter almost identical and it has a way more performance oriented engine-13500 rpm and I ride it in the dirt so I figure if it keeps the dirt out of a dirt bike then it can do just as good of a job for a car.
I know you were refering to mrpatrick but, I do it now. There is not really a performance difference maybe a slight gain in the upper range. The sound is the most notable... loud...throaty...deep sound.

It depends on your tastes... I like it either way.
