Default NASA SE/Super Street Time Attack Road Atlanta

Monday August 14 saw NASA SE and Super Street Magazine team up for the first East Coast Time Attack at Road Atlanta. Although this event was advertised in Super Street, there was still tons of track time and open track availible for all participants. Drivers from up and down the East Coast showed up with skill ranging from World Challenge and Grand Am Cup drivers and cars to the average DE driver just out there for more track time and a chance to get event coverage.

For the HASport/PIC Performance Civic (Unlimited FF Class) driven by Chad Slagg, competition would be fierce as 5 cars showed, all of which were capable of laying down a fast lap. The Turbo Charged Scion of Christian Rado would turn out to be the closest competition for the K20 powered 2000 Civic SI of Slagg.

Slagg would bust out of the gates and throw down a 1.41.xxx with a passenger in the car for the first sessions fastest Unlimited FF in unseasonably cool weather. As the day progressed the summer heat would come. An increase in tempature of 30 degrees was felt through out the paddock as drivers would quickly get out of their cars and get a cold water after coming off track.

The 300hp Rado Scion showed incredible speed on the straights by putting 10-15 lengths on the Civic but the 225 hp Civic would be able to close the gap in the braking zones and corners. Both the Civic and Scion would be on a fresh set of Hoosiers supplied by Lingerfelt Motorsports.

But at the end of the day the Civic would prevail. Slagg would throw down a fast time of 1.40.6, in his last session of the day, only a second and a half off his fastest time at Road Atlanta. This is Slagg's second win in the Time Trial Events with NASA. He will also be competing in the NASA National TT at Mid Ohio September 12-17 of this year.

The GT3 Cup car, driven by Corey Friedman, would bust out the fastest lap of the day almost 11 seconds faster than Slagg and his civic with a 1.30.07. The JIC Magic RHD 240 would hit the 1.33 mark and the SuperCharged NSX would see a 1.38.

By the time the track shut down only one car had to be towed off the track. A turbo charged Miata had had an engine fire and would be towed to a local shop for repair work.

That puddle was huge too, it claimed the front of a 323Ci in the DE 3 group. Sounds like a good time on Monday too.

I was really impressed with the pace of the civic all weekend. I was in HPDE2 and I was able to watch the Sat & Sunday races. Sundays standing start alongside Farmers SWCGT C6R was great! I cant believe you got that launch into T1 challenging for the entrance! I couldnt tell if he spun them or bogged it but who the hell cares? Civic FTW!

Bravo, well done on the time attack.

That seems like a really stupid idea for such a light, fragile car. Like, Diasio vs. any production coupe/sedan = Diasio is the loser. I'd imagine Loti are similar.

I sure hope not. Otherwise, I think myself and the other H1ers are going to have real issues at Summit catching Chadley.

Oh, and congrats
