Default Timing troubles

well i bought an obx cam gear from a guy and wut a bitch it is to put on. but i got it on and had like 3 ppl make sure everything was tdc well i put everything togather and got on a 40 mph road and it was driving fine. didnt get it into vtec on the street. then i merge on the highway and i gun it in 4th. it starts to accelerate like normal and then all of a sudden its boggin out and feels like its about to die. i throw it in neutral and coast to the exit and pull over in a parking lot coasting the whole time. i get out pop the hood and start it again and it sounds like ****. so i turn it off, inspect the cam gear and i did the noobist **** ever. i didnt tighten down the allen bolts on the cam gear and it went 10 degrees in advance. so we get back with some tools and i get the cam gear to be back in 0 degrees and everything lines up, no teeth jumped, put crank in tdc and cam was also lined up. so i start the bitch up and it runs like it has absolutly no tourqe. i made it home and it drives fine but has no tourqe what so ever. up a hill in 5th gear i loose acceleration with the pedal to the floor. doesnt run like it used to. i didnt bend any valves (also heard the accord motors are non-interfearace motors but have not done my reasearch on this) and i have some exhaust leek so i know this is a contributing factor but im not sure what happend. after about 100 miles driving like this my check engine light comes on. first time i get it checked (autozone) its something about emissions...so w/e. then it goes off. comes back on after a while and i check it myself and it was throwing two codes so i was like "WTF?" and i think it was throwing a 71. so i was like okay...maybe vtec since thats 41. but its also throwing another code. so me and a friend looked in this book he has and couldnt find out what it was. now the light has gone off again and im not sure whats wrong still. during this time i had to get my batt replaced because it took a **** on me and i got a new one and then my positive cable takes a **** too and im getting that and im like well expletive it im gonna get the negitive one also so i dont have to expletive with this anymore. and it fixed the starting problem but it still runs like it has no tourqe what so ever. im sure im going to get all kinds of mixed things about this but i guess at this point im willing to try anything to get this car running like it used to. im to the point where im going to go through the trouble again and put the stock one on and see what happens, but god damn its a bitch. any help or suggestions are welcome.

are you sure that no valves are bent or that your timing isnt off because that is what it sounds like to me

It really sounds like you are a tooth off on the timing, common complaint when this happens is that "the engine runs like a dog"

well off timing and a bent valve sound totally different.
im 100% sure i dont have any bent valves.
but it could be a possibility that its off.
would just one tooth off would this throw a check engine light?

well with the cam gear being adjustable i was able to see if it was just one tooth off timing. i had a friend that knows a lot more about cars help me and he said 10 degrees is pretty close to one tooth. so i went 10 degrees in retard and fired it up (after tightening it of course) and it started on a dime and ran just like it used to no bent valves and when i did this the check engine light wasnt on cuz it kept goin off and on so we'll see if it pops up again. but yeah if its runnin like it has no tourqe but its still driveable and just seems real slow and slugish and has pretty bad misfire every so often it might be because your off timing just a bit.
thank you hondadude for givin me this advise.
