Default Secondary butterfly plate question (h22a1) + other misc EGR stuff.

Hi, I was reading up on people bypassing and removing the butterflies on their 2-stage intake manifolds. I haven't seen anyone really talk about removing the middle plate altogether. I figured if the middle plate was left in, there's be virtually no gain in top-end and a few ft/lbs lost in low-mid range. However, removing that 1" (give or take) center plate altogether, wouldn't that help top-end since the runners are now shorter?
I know people are going to say "get a skunk2/euro-R manifold", but I have other things to spend money on at the moment. Besides, since my head's in the machine shop - figure'd I'll play/clean the intake manifold up a bit.

Also, I noticed on my intake manifold, looks like there were a few things welded on the manifold where the egr plate goes (if there is supposed to be one its not there)? Looks like there are 5 welds total, one over each runner, and one on the side of the #1 intake runner. My last and other question, if I remove the egr lift solenoid (think thats the name), located infront of the driver's strut tower, would that trip a EGR CEL?

those are not welds on the intake mani, its more like a sealent, the only way to block off the egr system with a stock ecu is to put a plate inbetween the egr valve and the manifold, or try the crappy resitor trick,

I currenlty run a BlackTrax modded IM with machined IABs and a matching plate stacked on top for longer runner length. They just mod the stock manifold.
I will have dyno numbers in a day or so!

I removed the EGR when I had a H23, it tripped a code but then went away after I reset the ECU. I'm keeping the EGR on the H22A since perforance it doesn't really effect performance. I have my butterflies constantly open since the vaccum box it's supposed to connect to was broken, I wish it was connected to I could get better low-end power. But I think I get better midrange and high end power with it disconnected.

Thats the trade off, better mid-high and sacrifice a little low end.
I currently also run an EGR block plate and coolant bypass.
BlackTrax is now making a Plastic Stacking Plate to replace the IAB plate. I am sure this spells some lower intake temps....Just a shame they didn't have them when they did my IM a few months ago.

Leave the IAB setup intact. Its a fantastic system when connected properly. Even on a built motor you cant beat the low-end it provides. Id opt to keep what little low end you have. In daily driving, how often do you keep your motor spinning above 5K - 6K ? my guess is very rarely for merging with traffic or acting like a ricer. Keep the low end.

hmm, I'm going to check out BlackTrax for more info then. I'm installing the hondata IM gasket, so I'm thinking of blocking the egr valve w/ a plate as well as bypassing the coolant line under the throttlebody to make the most out of it. As far as the secondaries go, I'll check my options out. I used to have a skunk2 manifold w/ my old b18c'd hatch - and the low-end was still there - so removing them on the h22a1 couldn't make the car horrible to drive around (then again, thats a personal preference I'd imagine - to each their own).
