Would you guys take my friend's bet for $100???
Alright, I'm getting a 97 vtec lude 5spd with cai and greddy exhaust tomorrow. Now the question is....what can I expect to run at the track with this mod?? My friend has a 95 Maxima 5spd that he ran at the track and hit a 15.0@93.5mph. He wants a piece of me at the track. Do I stand a chance against him? If I could take him, where would it be? Dead stop? 10mph Roll?(I think his torque would eat me up here) 40mph? 60mph?? Also, what is the proper way of launching a vtec lude? And is mine going to have lsd?? I didnt get to roast the tires to see when i was test driving the previous owner's car! Thanks for the input...I need it!

..in reverse, the Preludes have superior gearing there, and this will also speak to who is the better driver. Good luck 5th gen brethren!

Ok, you guys say im going to lose..what is the average quarter mile time for a 97 vtec lude with cai and exhaust and what is the typical trap speed. Give me practical numbers that you guys usually see????? Thanks for all the input.! The maxima owner is a pretty good driver by the way.
your buddy with a maxima will beat you. stock 92-96 vtecs run 15.1-15.3 on the quarter, your year will run 15.7-15.9. a cai and exhaust might get you down to 15.3s if you are a good driver with some nice slicks. i woudlnt bet your friend if i were you.
i wouldn't do it. you'll lose, i'm sorry. maxima's are pretty damn quick. your car will run no better than 15.4 - 15.5 with the mods you got.
you won't necessarily lose. but it takes time getting used to a new car. obviously your friend has the advantage of knowing his car's history and getting even better at driving.
people with 5th gen.'s have run in the high 14's with i/e so it is possible.
however, make sure you know the condition of the lude. if the compression is low since lots of 97-98 ludes seem to have the weak rings. i'd do a compression test before purchasing.

You should take him if you drive right.
But the thing is, you are just starting to drive so you don't "know" the car yet.
I pulled off a 14.6 in my 97 SH with I/E and cam gears. It's all in the launch and you're shifting.
And I've seen a 15.0 flat with a stock '98 lude before.
You most likely won't beat him right away, but after a month or so of driving it you will.

It's possible to run high 14's with that setup.. I ran a 15.1 last year on a shitty track with heavy *** 17's in my 96 lude(OBD2) w/ a CAI that's it. I think if you're a good driver you could possibly hit a 14.9 or something close too.
