2001 CRV Rear Differential Leaking
I have a 2001 CRV with only 23K miles on it (believe it or not!). It appears that the rear differential is leaking fluid.
I don't see leaking near the axles (rubber boots). It looks like the differential housing is 3 pieces (front, middle, back), and its leaking in the 2 areas where these 3 pieces are bolted together. My question is this: Are there seals (gaskets?) where these pieces are joined? I don't see any indication of seals from the outside of the differential.

thats odd. havent seen that happen before. (yet)
I know axle seals go bad now and then but..
Clean it off real good with brake clean. and monitor closely.. hopefully you can pin point it.

not sure if the image works

hope you figure it out!

Thanks for the exploded view, elise.
I finally got a mechanic to admit that sometimes the (liquid) seals, where the differential housing is joined, leaks - due to poor application when the components were assembled.
Its just unfornate this happened with such low mileage. Mechanic wants between 500.00 and 800.00 to correct the problem (dismantling, cleaning, resealing)! Seems pretty steep for this. I'll try to get the Honda people to repair it with a good faith warranty. If that doesn't work, I'll repair it myself.
Thanks, again.
