Default Having some serious considerations about selling the R...

Well apprently using synthetic 5w30 is indeed bad for you car... My car has a pretty major oil leak as it drank 3 quarts in a little under 2 months. Supposivly switching back to regular oil will fix this but im not sure... If i have to have the seals replaced I am lookign at about 14-1500 just to change some seals. If thats the case... Kiss the R goodbye...

Well this place had a nice 1999 NSX-T that i could pick up for 64995. Even if i keep my R I could pick up the NSX for about 1500 a month for 5 years with 0 down... Or i can sell my R and put about 20G+ down on the NSX... Id have a really sweet looking car... A targa top... a six speed... and a VTEC V6 with 280HP give or take...

What do you guys think?

I think the NSX is dated.
And for the price of one months NSX payment, you could get the R fixed.

But im still driving around in an Integra and I dont have the money right now to fix car. However if i sell it... I have the cash and can step up...

my point being that I dont want to dump money into a car that Im still paying for because the idiot dealer in Bedford told me that the synthetic was ok to use.

I don't think its the oil. COuld be rings or seals. You better pray its the seals, and 1500 is expensive for that. That is how much it would cost to replace the rings.

Not crazy about the NSX, expecially at 65K. I would go a little older, and try to land one in the 40's

If you don't have $1500 "disposable" cash to fix your car, should you be buying an NSX?

Yup because I make enough to pay for it in a month. Im just currently tapped out due to some poor investment choices...

You better go check those choices now and react to make sure you can still get that NSX...As soon as that explosion happened in NYC today Wall Street reacted negativley

does it take you an entire month to afford that payment? What about insurance? Call you insurance company to see what your rate for that car would be.

Then you would be looking at close to 2000 a month.

Strange - I know most R owners are using sythetic oil and it has never caused a problem like you mention...

Or, for under $10 a month, you can keep putting in synthetic 5W-30. What's the big deal, anyway? It's pretty common to burn oil, especially synth 5 or 10w-30, I think I probably burn almost as much as you.....

Plus, how do you expect to get $20,000 for your car if it needs work done to it? What would happen if you had the NSX and you got in a wreck, or it was stolen, or IT starts leaking like your Integra, then what? $$$

How do you think Im going to get 20K for my car... Im just gonna sell it to a stunna.

I plan on having full coverage on the NSX which comes out to... 4000 a year or a 2000 more than my ITR... Twice as much for a car worth 3 times as much...

I need something with more class. Im getting sick of being lumped together with all the riceboys and stunnas in the "import scene" Im sick of people always asking me if I have NOS. Im sick of living in fear that my car will be stolen just so it can end up in some jack ***** civic hatchcrap. Im getting sick of the whole damn scene whether or not Im actually involved with it. Im sick of the whole ******* thing. For crying out loud. I work in a respectibel place Greenwich CT. there are cars that are worth 3-4 times as much as mine. Ferraris and BMWs... But whose car is attempted theft? Mine!!!!

Im just so ****** sick of the **** that comes with owning the car.

if thats how you feel, sell it. NSX is cool but parts dont come cheap. Nothing comes cheap on a car that is originally almost $100,000. just keep that in mind.

What he said. But are you sure it's because of the synthetic oil? I know I thought my car was burning oil at a ridiculous rate ... till I found out that I didn't tighten down the drain plug enough

If you can afford the car, then by all means go for it. I don't know about your situation. Most financial adviser will say that only purchase a vehicle that is no more than the equivalent of 1/2 your annual salary, otherwise, the depreciation, payments, and overall cost will have a significant impact in your situation. If you buy something more, chances are when a lay off occur, the person will be more likely be forced to sell the vehicle and lose more $$$ since unemployment is just 50% of pay.
Anyway, IMHO, you don't have to get a 60+k car, I'd keep the ITR if I were you and spend 32k on a luxury sedan or SUV. At least, that is what I did.

Yes my plug is tight and there is no oil puddle where i park my car everyday. I can see the plumb of blue smoke pour out the back. The car sits and the oil seeps into the chambers due to the swollen seals... When I fire it up. POOF!!! Out somes the smoke and oil...

Im no longer listening to my financial advisor because he is the reason I am in this predicament in the first place... It was his bad advice that I took and here I am now...

I dont want a luxery sedan. Sedans are for people with families IMO. I want to be looking all "Baller" as the kids say these days. I cant take a sedan to the track and i flat out REFUSE to buy a BMW...

OK, since i wont be getting this car, I will pass on the knowledge to ya! Lexus SC300. 2 Door Luxury Sedan. Its got an NA Toyota Supra engine in it. And if you search carefully you can find a manual. Regardless, you will be a MBD "most baller displayer" in a car like this. And for some speed... you can turbocharged the motor as is or drop in a Supra TT engine (2JZGTE) and go crazy with that. You can possibly have a 1000+ hp luxury car. Depends on you... but this car can easily be a reliable 600hp daily driver... i know of a lot of people doing it with 800hp or so and with 10 sec and 9 sec time slips to back it up...

Honestly Im not a big Lexus fan. I think I have seen that car and it really doesnt do it for me... It would be a good choice for a sleeper, but honestly Id rather have the Supra than the engine. I have never been a big fan of sleepers. Sure I like to go fast but I like to look good as well. Almost to the point where I would be a ricer except I like a clean undersated look. And most of the time Id rather be #10 in speed if Im #1 in style. With an NSX I think I can accomplish both to a pretty good means...

Time will tell in a week or 2 what has to be done...
