who makes the best glove?
I just got my license.. Took the MSP.. Am about to get a Ninja 250. I was wondering what you guys recommend for a really good glove (yeah i read the sticky).. I am a very serious guitarist, so even a moderate hand injury to me is a BIG deal. Therefore I'm willing to spend quite a bit more to be safe (within reason). Is something like the Alpinestars GP PRO overkill for street use?

No. You could also consider kangaroo if you're willing to drop the coin.

I have 'Alpinestars SP-2 Gloves'.

Gets uncomfortable after like 2 hours or so, compared to the gloves without the armor they have alot more movement everywhere. My 2 cents.

do you feel the akira is superior to the top shelf alpinestars? are they comfortable? I dont mind spending that much for a bit more protection given they last a few yrs
I have no personal experience with kangaroo but most seem to think it's the end-all in abrasion and tear resistance. Evidently kangaroo doesn't stretch at all so you must fit them well at initial purchase.

I knew a guy that quit building cars and sold both of his crotchrockets due to him becoming more serious on the guitar. He sold everything and took off for music school. Gloves may save you from rash but breaking bones is breaking bones.

i started with a short glove and moved to a long glove. i felt protected much more with the long glove.
another vote for a* sp-1 after break-in! they felt miserable when i tried them on, but were money after a couple weeks.

Mr. PengUIN your right about breakin bones... im worried about rash but my primary concern is preventing the delicate little bones that make up my hand from turning into splinters... thats the kind of injury that most people could move on with after healing... but me, as a guitarist since age 7, would be devastated..
so far I think Im gonna go with the A* GP PROs... they seem to have the best armor.

I have crashed a couple of times with them they are ok but they dont offer great abrasion resistance. I wouldn't buy another pair if that says anything to you?

GET A GAUNTLET GLOVE!!!!
I crashed hitting a deer at 60mph on a ninja 250, wearing the A* SP-S:

and i got a nasty scrape on the bottom of my palm because it wore through, not to mention my wrist because my jacket didn't go over the gloves.
i now have this and couldn't be happier! alpinestars gp-plus:

P.S. watch out for deer! or your bike will end up like this
