Body work question LOOK! COMMENT! ENJOY!
hows it going, just looking to get a few pointers on how to go about cosmetically fixing my dx. im getting my wheel wells cut out and new sheet metal will be welded on, after thats im on my own for the rest of the body/paint work. my questions are:
1. should i use aircraft stripper/paint remover on my door and 1/4 to remove the paint/decals, or will that be too severe and eat away at the old metal?
2. is there anything i can spray on the wheel wells after i get my car back to try and hold off the rust from reappearing (other than rust primer?) also if i want to bondo it to try and restore its original shape, what can i put between the bondo and sheet metal to prevent rust while still giving me a good surface to apply the body filler.
THANKS

LOL...ive never seen a sticker like that before!
I dont even know if it would be worth it to try and fix all that rust. There is a ton...a lot of metal replacement is nessesary.
Go to RustBullet.com and check out some of their products.
Aircraft paint stripper would work well to get all of that off.

bahh, come on up to Minnesota and you'll see alot of rust, thats not too bad. That sticker though.. wow is that a dealer one? Just have them try to keep the bondo as little as possible. Already on the right track cutting out and replacing the metal.

Californians don't know how bad these cars get, and then are saved.
I say....90% of all EFs in my area that are in 'good shape'' at some point looked worse then that thing.

Maybe I should drive my California rust free 89 Wagon back east and sleep in it till it sells and fly back home.
I wonder if its worth more money on the east coast

The extra money wouldn't cover the flight home. It's honestly like a 500-1000$ difference for a CLEAN one, and a sun faded one.
Drive it to Canada, original paint ones are worth a little bit more. I've seen a florida CRX with a nasty WW bodykit and ugly paint sell for 4000$ cause it was rust free 100%.

1. To remove the stickers get a heat gun and peel away once warmed up. wetsand with 400 grit until it's gone.
2. http://www.por-15.com works great if prepped and applied properly. It's not uv resistant so you'll need to primer over it before exposing it to the sun. I'd suggest using a gravity fed touch up gun to apply it because if you apply too much it will run and it's very difficult to sand once it hardens. a few light coats and you're set.

Thanks for all the feedback, i just got it back from the body shop and the guydid a fantastic job! for 400 bucks he cut out all that old metal around both sides welded on new metal, formed it to the original shape, and couldnt look better. gonna get the pics up tomorow... the car is currently being stripped down and restored and i can hopefully have it all done in a week. ill get the "before and after" pics up tomorow

For 400? That sounds like a pretty good deal if it comes out nice!

POR 15, works very well to deter rust from coming back, as said above. I think it's ironic that the car's graphics have palm trees stamped on the quarters, however if it came from that type of climate it would hardly have that much rust, unless it was sitting in the ocean. Btw, imo, $400 is a steal for doing all that body work, show us some pics after it's done.
