Default 1998 Civic EX - trouble starting when cold.

So my civic has a hard time starting when its cold. It turns over but after about 4-5 seconds of turning over i'll stop, and as i stop it stumbles to a start. Sometimes i will hear a pop before it starts. As soon as the engine is warm it start perfectly.

My only guess is that the coolant or air tempurature sensor is broken so the engine computer thinks the engine is hot, therefore not giving as much fuel to get it started.

What do you guys think? Would that be a good place to start looking?

BTW the engine is not modified with exception to a K&N filter.

Thanks in advance!!

Last time the car had a tuneup? Fuel filter, plugs, wires, etc? Battery age? Is it slow to crank or just slow to start. If no cel's are on I'd look at maintenance items first...

i changed the plugs a couple months ago, wires are original, and i'm not sure about the fuel filter. the battery is brand new so it cranks fast.

thanks for the input!

change the fuel filter, sometimes the prime will suck (mine does) when you turn the key to the on position, wait for the check engine light to go off, that will prime the system of fuel, i do it twice to ensure a very quick start. if you just run it over right away, there will be no fuel pressure because the pump hasnt completely pressurized the line. try that.
