When do you know if you're ready to buy a supersport?
When you guys first started riding, were you ever afraid on twisting the throttle and flipping your bike over? I'm asking this because im not an experienced rider and havent taken the msf course yet, but when im on my two stroke the powerband comes outta no where and instant power which is insane because then the wheel just pops up..
Some people started on a 600, and did fine, but how long until you felt comfortable, because im no where near that stage of comfort.

BTW - 2 strokes are better than any 4-stroke, no matter what the displacement. Call me a fanboy, drinking the koolaid, etc. But nothing feels better than a healthy RD coming on the pipe and trying to throw you off the back.

i have a yz85 and yea i hit powerband and the rush is insane coming from a quad backround where im not twisting the handlebar.. =/ and im sure if your a good rider you can handle that **** and it's fun lolz.

you just know, if you have ask you are most likely not ready. I would start with something smaller for your first street bike.

well considering you are 18 and are having trouble with the power of your yz85 then i would say you would have problems with any 600 supersport you try to ride. they all will have significantly more power than what you are riding now and the power will be on a much more broad range. i think if you are used to dirtbikes you could try the street with a converted 250F. it wont be horrendously more powerful than what u currently ride, it will have a very broad powerband and you would be able to stick with a bike that you would already be comfortable seated on.
other than that i would look into something like an SV650, the honda hornet or an older 600 ducati monster. these bikes will be more similar in power to what you currently ride than a current supersport such as the 600rr or R6. also these bikes being twins will have far broader powerbands than your 2 stroke mx bike and any of the more extreme SS bikes which are very focused for the top end of the RPMs.
you should feel lucky though, the fact that the thought of not being ready to move to a bigger bike passed through your head means you may be one of the lucky few who was born with some brains. if everyone had the same thought pass through their mind this forum wouldnt be so filled with people pushing 250s and bitching about high insurance rates.

Best advice... Seat time, without it you have no idea what you are doing, and/or what to expect in any given situation whether it be performance or emergency. The physical measure of time means little and is useless to gage when... I know 16 year old riders with more experience/skill than some 40-50 year old riders

I found dirtbikes to come up on you alot faster and harder then my gsxr 600. A 2 stroke has no power, then all power at once which makes it pop up on you. You cant compare dirt to street, its 100% different.

my buddy had a small normal traffic accident in one and the "car" almost killed him
, no more crx's for him.

Any current 600cc sport bike isnt ungodly difficult to manage.
If know how to ride a motorcycle, gearing, where and how to use the brakes, turning, etc... the basics, and if you RESPECT the fact that your on something that could potentially kill you, then i dont see the problem. Use your head.

sorry to hear that, and im hoping that i don't get into an accident with that car =/ I'm trying to stay out of heavy crowds of dumbass drivers, but **** happens sometimes and you can;t stop accidents from happening.

Well im in no hurry to get on two wheels because I'm not comfortable with my riding abilities on a dirt bike, let alone on a rocket.. so right now ill stick with four wheels, and my two stroke for my beginner bike

atleast thats what my instrucotr at the track told me
im only 19 and i got an r6 for my 1st bike the day after xmas (18 at the time). almost 8 months, 8k+ miles and 1 trackday. take it easy, learn and respect the bike and youll be fine.
ill admit i was worried about going full throttle and flipping back untill i ask if you can and found out it can really only happen in 1st gear on a 600 but you have to pretty muchroll off at like 7k rpm and then go WOT
id be one of those with more skill

You cant compare dirt to street, its 100% different.</TD></TR></TABLE>thats the reason i said he sould start on a 250F. they are 4 strokes so he isnt going to have the peaky power of the 2 stroke. he will have much more linear power and it will still be easy enough for him to control yet powerful enough because the bike is far lighter than a normal sport bike. plus he could still ride it in the late fall early spring time if he throws some slightly knobby tires on it. living in Illwaukee there will only be about 5 maybe 6 good months of riding time cause the weather is so fucked in the midwest.
You cant really compare a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke, god if the modern supersport bikes had a 2 stroke powerband we'd prolly have a lot more dead riders than we already do. Rossi's comment on his 500cc motogp bike, "Its like faaaawk."
4 strokes are very smooth in powerband. Take the MSF, buy a used 4 stroke and get in the saddle and ride. The learning curve is very fast for dedicated riders.

Yea, too bad i have a 2stroke right now =/ I'm taking the msf course next year probably..no money right now and dont have time...So im just sticking to riding offroad on grass,dirt etc and i should be fine for awhile..
