anyone put side moldings on a cx?
what would you use to cut the tiny squares in the door and 1/4 pannels and what would you use to prevent the metal from rusting afer you cut it...
is there a tretment for the bare metal ?

I don't see why anyone would want to go through the trouble to add moldings when it looks better w/o. Just my opinion of course.
So, after you go through all the trouble to add the moldings you use JDM thin moldings, right?
There are chemicals you put on bare metal to prevent rust. My father has some, just not sure of the name.

Don't add side moldings. It's one of the features that makes the CX & VX stand out. Be proud of your CX. If you really want side moldings, just get the generic stick on stuff. My friend has it & you cannot tell the difference. Plus, it comes right off if you get tired of it, or if a new owner doesn't like them (good selling point)...
zinc chromate primer is what is used on aircraft. thats what i use on any bare metal parts on my car. its a bright green color.
but yah why the heck would you want to add side moldings? all that added weight and parasitic drag will make you car slow.

OMG!
thanks for the tip on the primer though...
besides imo cars with side moldings look 100x better with something there jdm thin moldings usdm thicker moldings... they just look to plain to me with no moldings
and as for the stick on ones i really dont wanna take the chance of cruising down the highways down here wich btw if you do any less than 85 you are slowing down traffic, and have my molding fly off and look like a complete idiot... lol
anybody actualy do this? what did you use to cut the squares out? i guess you could use a sideways cutting drill bit no?

I agree with everyone else. That is the only reason I sought a cx that and the 92 is prewired for vtec and o2 sensor.

FYI: All 92-95 civics main wire-harness are prewired for a 4-wire O2 sensor (My 94CX has it). Thats because the California emmissions version of the CX uses a 4-wire O2 on all 4 model years...

if you get the right stuff, they wont come off. it is a much safer option than poking holes in your car to put them on.
that being said, I will E-kick you in the nuts if you put side moldings on your CX!!!
just kidding, but seriously, please dont

First of all THINK about the permanent effects of cutting holes on bodywork.
Now think about what would happen if a mistake was made in the bodywork process.
Now think about how much harder it is to fix a fuuck-up like holes being in thin sheet metal in very hard to work areas such as in the indentations on the doors, feners, and rear 1/4 panels where the moldings go.
So do you really still want to try and hack up the entire sides of your car just for some damn side moldings?
Dude either find some industrial double sided tape or some nice stick-on moldings, or learn to appreciate the no moldings look.
I personally like the no moldings. I'm not saying I'd ever remove them from a DX/Si and then fill in the holes to get rid of them or anything - kind of goes back to hacking up the sheet metal. I am saying I'd also not go out of my way to trash perfectly good sheet metal to cut holes in it just to fit in OE moldings either.
EDIT:
Your pics don't really help the argument as you're showing a really nicely done hatch that happens to have side moldings, then your Civic which is in the building stages. Of course a car on steelies with no lip or black strips on the rear bumper won't compare to a car with wheels, nice lip, side skirts, etc.
Here's my no moldings EG for a comparison -

See how the car flows? Check the black strip all around the entire bottom of the car, including the rear bumper. Now look at how the entire middle of the car flows with just silver. Now note how the entire window area is encapsulated in all black, including mirrors? See what I mean about flow? I'm not hating on side moldings, but I'm saying I think they kind of break up the "flow" of the colors IMO.
My final point?
If you've got them, keep them.
If you don't have them, don't add them.

3M double sided sticky tape for the mortal kombat win!!!!
This sheit is VERY sticky (its the red backed kind)
Use some rubbing alcohol to remove the wax buildup and this stuff WILL STICK! I've had to use two hands and my body weight to pull this stuff off before. This is what OEM uses.
But like said, I say DON'T ROCK SIDE MOLDINGS!!!

Dude you can show me 10 more pics of each car and it's not going to make me tell you to cut fuucking holes in your car for some damn plastic side trims! I'm sorry that's just dumb.
If you're got such an incredicle hard-on for side moldings then go buy a DX!

Either use stick-ons or live with no moldings IMO. Again I didn't say I hate side moldings - they're just not worth any trouble IMO.

Some of you guys act like he's committing treason because he likes how sidemoldings look and wants them on his car. What about rear drums?...going to flip out if someone wants to swap discs onto their CX as well? Since the CX came with drums...own the drums with "CX PRIDE"? ...Riiiiight.
si0385 if you choose to opt for moldings...you can completely trust the aftermarket stick-on moldings. Easy to put on, no worries about them coming off while driving and if you ever change your mind...you can pull them off, use some GooGone to remove any adhesive left behind and you're back to stock.
