I agree. I have a cheap (paid $300 shipped NIB) CF hood that I have only had for about 2 years, nad it totally started looking like *** this summer. The clear coat is peeling away. I bought a Seibon hood for my wife's RX7, and it came out of the box looking a hell of a lot better than mine did when it was delivered. The difference in quality was immediately apparent. If you can't afford a quality hood right now and absolutely can't wait, then go ahead and buy a cheapo. Just be aware that the finish will probably not last long.

yeah i was looking for a cheap one but now i'm having second thoughts. Its true, you get what ou payfor. I found a VIS hood for 400 is that good?
My VIS CF hood that I bought 4+ years ago is now starting to look like crap aswell, the gel coat isnt peeling, its just hazy, I can get some of it to come up with some polishing, but it just comes back to a haze a few days later.
I thik im gonna get it wet sanded and clear coated this winer, in hopes of keeping it alive.
Its WAY lighter then any of the newer cf hoods i have seen lately.
Good luck and remeber the hood is the cheap part, shipping is the nightmare.

That is a common probelm with any carbon fiber / composite material that doesnt have a really good UV coating but even then it will just take longer to see the same problems. Sun > Carbon Fiber
Just get yourself a ebay CF hood. I got mine, and the fit was near perfect, and it still looks pretty decent. Don't waste your money on Seibon or VIS they will ALL eventually fade. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people complaining about their VIS fading, and I've heard the occasional gripe with Seibon. Bottom line is all will fade in direct sunlight ain't nothing going to change that. 3M makes some kinda wipes which work really really well in restoring the look of CF hoods, there was a thread on it in the appearance section. Also you can just get it sanded and re-cleared. Go ebay!

Why should that matter? It should be perfectly fine as long as the fitment is okay.

Yes I believe that's exactly it.
