Default Crane HI-6 vs. MSD Digital 6

Like the title says I'm looking to pick up one or the two. I'm gonna be running on all motor nothing special setup, but some day I will be boosted so if I'm gonna get one I might atleast get a good one. I'm looking for pros and cons on theres, and anyone with experiance with these.

I recommend neither. Stick with oem ignition all motor or turbo, that way you keep things simple and have money to spend on more important things.

ask yourself this: am i shooting for 500+ hp?

if the answer is "NO" then:
stick with stock
if the answer is "YES" then:
anything BUT msd, i always hear bad things in the reliability area.

for the nerds:

Private Sub MSD.vs.Crane_click
If BlnAnswer = FALSE Then
lbl1.Text ="Stick with stock"
Else
lbl1.Text = "anything BUT msd, i always hear bad things in the reliability area."
End If
End Sub

Stick with stock unless you're making so much power that you really need it. I had the MSD digital 6 box with MSD coil and other MSD stuff. It was reliable and the idle was perfect.

I did have a really loud buzzing from the MSD box when I sprayed a 75 shot. I called MSD and they gave me some mumbo jumbo over the phone. I was like whatever. The buzzing was only when I sprayed so I didn't care that much.

In my professional experience MSD is junk. When I built hot rods for a living I never sold MSD unless someone specifically asked for it. I had to warranty more MSD boxes and coils than every other manufaturer combined, despite the fact that I sold and installed far more Crane stuff than MSD. Every MSD coil I've ever had on one of my personal cars has failed within the first two years. I stopped using their junk a long time ago. The Crane coil on my Camaro is still kicking after 5 years. Crane has great electronics. If you ever see a Crane box opened up next to an MSD box it's easy to tell the difference. Cranes are built much better.

That being said I've got an MSD 6A on my Camaro merely because I had it sitting around the shop and installed it when I was chasing down an ignition issue. I'll replace the 6A with a Hi-6 when the 6A goes eventually.

Honda OEM ignition components are really the best you can use on your Honda. Anything else is just a good replacement at best.

A friend of mine has a clean DC2, he sprays the engine bay alot and has a lot of trouble with keeping his MSD dry (always acts up after) Is crane have any such problems and how hot do the box's get? I want to mount it under the passenger seat.

I have a couple friends that ever since they installed a multiple spark box they have had alot less problems with detonation ever since, and yes some day I plan to be over the 500whp of close to it and I'm big on eliminating weak links (learned the hard way). Well I guess Crane HI 6 it is. Anyone want to buy a MSD SCI?
