Default Start Problem Please Advise!

Ok, first off, I've searched around for this problem and found some archived threads with similar problems to mine. However, nobody in those threads has offered any kind of solution to the problem. So I thought I'd try my chances and maybe someone will have pity on me.

So here goes: Ok, this problem on occurs on cold starts (usually the first one of the day). What happens is that on my first attempt to start the car, it cranks but doesn't start (2-3 times). If I crank longer it will start, but I don't want to crank so many times. But on the second attempt to start it, it starts right up no problem. People in the other thread say it might be a fuel pressure problem, but what would I have to replace or do to eliminate this problem?

PS. The cranks are healthy sounding.

Any advice or potential solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

let the pump prime when you go to start it at first, turn the key to the on position and wait about 5 seconds and then crank it, mine does that when its cold (winter)

let the pump prime twice and then see if it starts. if so you need a fuel pump most likely

Just make sure the main relay is working, that could be it!

I'm a dimwit and have no idea where the main relay is. It'd be great if anyone could tell me where it is. Pictures would be even better.

Thanks in advance.

It's up by the hood popper to the back side of the car under the dash. Held in by one 10mm bolt on a metal wrm with a 8 pin plug on it. You'll find it pretty fast.

Mine does the same thing. I turn the key to "ON", wait for the cel to go off, then turn key to start. It starts immediately every time.

Okay I had the same problems. Here's what i did.

Change fuel filter. This helped out alot but after a month problem came back. But car does not sputter anymore.

Tune up. plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Starts stronger when it starts.

Ignitor. Like the fuel filter...helped out but problem came back.

Last thing im gonna do is main relay cuz that's what everyone tells me. Only thing is that it is about $80 dollars from dealer only.

I just used my soldering iron and reheated the connections. 20 minute, free fix.
