Default VTEC Engine vs. Non-VTEC Engine

iight me and my friend argue all da time about whos cars is faster. I have a 98 honda civic ex coupe with a non-vtec engine. My friend has a 95 honda civic ex coupe with a vtec engine. We constanly race eachotha and we are always right next to eachotha. I win sometimes and he win sometimes. Most of the mods are da same between us. is da vtec engine meant 2 be faster dan a non-vtec. I just wanted to know wuts da difference bet. da engines.

How is yours non-VTEC? What kind of engine did you swap into it? Why did you go with a shittier engine? The D16Z6's and D16Y8's in the EX coupe from 92-98 were ALL VTEC STOCK. So now you're talking displacement. He has a 1.6L VTEC, and if you have a "non-VTEC engine" as you put it, you must be using a 1.6L Y7 or a 1.5L B7.

You'll have to give us more info on your engine.

Both of them are VTEC engines, just because your valve cover doesn't say so doesn't mean squat.

Put the time, money, and effort forth and you can have a fast SOHC.

Coming from the fact that there were far to many "da's" in that post I don't think he has the brain matter to take your advice.

yeah your cars are both vtec engines.. your vc just dont say vtec on it like his does. search for like engine codes or something.. there was a writeup on the codes.

sell your car and go back to school and take a few grammar classes.
Who cares who wins, i can't wait for the day that i read your post about getting a street racing ticket and they towed your car.
I used to be part of that depressing sohc family but it's finally nice to feel some power when i hit v-tec.

heres something none of you have thought of yet. he probably has no idea his car is vtec. being a 98 ex, it would definitly have the d16y8 sohc vtec, however, the d16y8 didnt come with vtec insignia as the z6 did, so he probably thinks he drives a non-vtec civic coupe as a lot of non-honda enthusiasts would. as strange as it may seem most people dont seem to know what a vtec solenoid looks like. haha

Actually, 90% of the people in this thread have thought about it, hence all the mentioning of his valve cover, especially "just because the VC doesn't say VTEC on it doesn't mean you don't have VTEC
