my rsx's tranny just messed up> :-( any ideas ??
I was driving my rsx the other day cruising down the freeway. speeding ?? (of course) and BAMm! my tranny no longer would get in any gear.... what the hell could possibly might happen?? I just owned this car for 8 days (used car 60k miles str8 out of the dealership) im left with no warranty and gotta fix the car myself but im not sure whats wrong. let me knw any possible ideas of what went wrong and recommended upgrades. i was saving up my money to buy new tires, CAI, in full exhaust but now guess my money will have to go to tranny.
Well first of you shouldnt have bought a used car with 60k+ on it unless your planing to swap it. If its a base model buy a six speed tranny. If its a type S, get the problem diagnosed, ask them what u need, get it your self online (only buy OEM stuff, not bull $hit) then get someone to do the job for you.
Questions for you to answer:
-Does it Pop out of gears?
-Does it make noise or shake when in gear?
-How fast were you driving?
-What kind of clutch is in it and when was it put in?
-Did the botom of your shifter feel hot?

you might have bent the shift fork screwed up the synchros or screwed up the spider gears all this happened to me so I bought the type r trans and i love it
now would be a good time to upgrade... Im thinking 6 speed LSD from the type-r.. Good luck... And oh yea, you should have paid the extra money for the warranty.

I'm with this guy. From the description, sounds like your clutch disc exploded or something. But you need to be alot more specific with what exactly your car is / is not doing.

-it doesnt pop out of gears at all...(its just dead in whatever gears i put on) ((revv revv is all it does))
-once again no noise but the engine revving
-if i can only remember i believe i went flooring from 3 gear to fourth means i went about hitting 80mph.. you see this is normally how i race ( 0 - 40 1st; 40 to 60 2nd, 60 to 80 3rd, 80 to 110 4th, 110 to 140 5th, 140 - above hell too fast i wont even dare try this gear just yet
-its all bone stock including my tranny...with intentions of future upgrades (yet now its time for upgrades but im not sure whats exactly went wrong)
-if this helps, there were times in the past 8 days of my ownership with the rsx there where some foul smell occuring..peeps say its the clutch burning but i say its probably some vtec technology revving the motor which causes some heat which also send in some foul smells. (its my first time owning a vtec so my knowledge is quite limited on vtecs)
-as in for shifter feeling hot or anything i dont remember this at all so i dont think heat feeling was something i suspected

well hopefully tuesday or wednesday this week; ill get the car diagnose somehow. lets say its the release bearing...where can i find those LOL? i never really came across those bearing upgrades or such when surfing throught tranny aftermarkets. correct me if im wrong but release bearing might probably come in with the CLutch kits but i might have overlooked it or something. bottom line in order to prevent this from happening again. i would most definetly buy anything stronger than my current oem parts>

how much did the type r tranny cost you and what made it better compared to type s tranny. i heard something about type r gear ratio was better or something like that.

lol the type r trans was brand new from hmotors.com $2300 you go from a 4.7 final drive to a 5.099 which make the gears shorter it also comes with lsd it produces quite a bit of torque steer but i lve it just that drpped my time at the track by .3 you never feel like you are losing power after shifts. that and the pro were the 2 best things i ever bought.

None of this was any help Not eveyone can afford a New car or to swap a motor soon as they get it so that was just dumb of you to say. Six speed is nice but it doesn't help him solve the problem. anyway...
When i put my new clutch in i had the same problem. Its a stupid one but i did. My axle poped out so all it did was rev but didn't move. Also i could be a throw out bearding or theres some tabs on the fork that could have poped off they hot on to the ball (i dont no tech name). When we took mine apart one side was poped off.
Also You dont have to go OEM i dono what that guys problem is but aftermarket is fine. I went with a Stage one Exedy with a Type-s Flywheel and i love it. I can get it to spin the tire in 1-2-3 lol. I waited for it to get broken in first lol. You cant really buy a throw off bearing by its self that i no off. If ur taking it off u might as well upgrade/get a new one anyway. For a new clutch i would say go to AF-Performance they have really good deals on EPhatch.com.
Hope that helped u out a little.

im gonna get my tranny diagnose tmw for FREE! two different guys at two different places. hopefully both guys will diagnose the same problems so i can be reassured about buying the right part for the car to get it up n running. however, i might be down with Coldth1 & others... it might be some throw out bearing or fork popped out. yet if thats the case then i'll try my best popping it back in. IF its the clutch then ****>> guess its time for clutch upgrade. yet guys im gonna post up something new about clutch. check it out. most of all thank you guys for the help. wish we all could hang out with our rsxs lol.
