LSD.........what in theworld..........
You herd of posi traction in rear wheel drive cars right?
Well its like that but for front wheel cars makes both tires go instead of just the right side tire, its good for take off but i dont think it will affect driving at all...
(limited slip differental)

It actually affects driving tremendously:::
LSD provides more traction and power to the ground when accelerating through a hard turn or in any other hard driving situtation.
The difference is amazing.

on an open diferential car, which most of us have, power is applied to the wheels evenly, so in normal situations this is a good thing but when taking a turn of any sort, weight will be shifted to one of the wheels but our cars will still continue to keep power distribution even causing a power loss, now with a LSD or limited slip diferential wieght is even in straight but in turns it is transfered to the wheel that has better traction and weight causing for a more powerful turn and more speed over all it is also good in rain, snow and all other adverse conditions were traction may be lost to one wheel or the other.

very well put there!!!

hmm driving on LSD is like driving through the teletubby tv show. but you hold on to the curb so you dont fall into the sky. driving w/o LSD is really boring. you cant see the road melt nor can you see the multicolored kalidescope like clouds.
oh ****! limited slip....

Another way to think of this is in an extreme condition... tight turn on a closed course situation. Both the front wheels are trying to track the same arc, but because one wheel is on the outside and one is on the inside, they are traveling two different distances and subsequently speeds.
The outer wheel will be travelling faster on the larger arc and since the open-diff splits the power 50/50, it will try to force the inner wheel to travel at the same speed on a smaller arc. So the inside wheel will end up spinning and skipping. And you are getting 50% + something less than %50 power down.
The LSD /ATB/Torsen/posi, all different implementations that do the same thing, lets the wheels travel at different speeds independent of each other. Therefore allowing you to get all the power down.
Take a look at the product descriptions for Quaife, Kaaz, etc. too.

Some of you guys seem to have a misconception of what an open differential does. It doesn't transfer power 50/50, it simply transfers more power to the wheel with less traction, or the wheel that needs it less. In fact if you hold one wheel, it will transfer 100% of the power to the other one, causing "peg-legged" launches and spinning tires when accelerating out of a turn.
This is all precisely so that the wheels can travel at different speeds when going around a corner. An LSD allows the wheels to travel at different speeds, but it gives more power to the wheel that has more traction. Don't ask me how a Quaife works, I tried to figure it out at one point in my life but I don't think God himself could truly understand what goes on in there

I was thinking the same thing. Although some cars with open diff's seem to be able to spin both tires freely. Kinda odd. However, once you enter and exit a corner, the LSD will smoke open any day, every day. Later, Overkll

Yeah he is right. Ifg you jack up your car so one tire is off the ground. Then start your car it will spin the whell in the air that you jacked up and wont budge the wheel on the ground.
Why they put them there is to have better driving in corners and such

Do various differentials result in different horsepower to the wheels or is it just for traction pur
