Default Mugen intake review

I just installed my Mugen Intake the other night, and after a couple of days, I'm still amazed at the difference that this modification has made.

My car is completely stock with the exception of a Resonated test pipe which had to temporarily replace my blown cat.

I've tried short ram, CAI, Drop in filter, Modified the stock box similarily to the icebox, and still nothing has compared to the Mugen.

You feel the difference everywhere throughout the RPM, throttle response is quick and precise, torque has been improved, and it pulls very strong to 8400 RPM.

It a has a nice deep tone as the revs climb, and when VTEC cracks there are no words to describe the way it sounds. It is loud enough, and is very clean sounding from inside the car and outside.

The cons with this intake is the installation time, especially if you have A/C like I did.

It consisted of :

1.Jacking up the car and removing the passenger side front wheel.
2. Removing fender lining, stock intake box, snorkel and resonator.
3. unbolting the rad and moving it as far to the other side of the engine bay as possible.
4. separating the AC lines as far apart as possible. Use tie straps to hold them apart.
5. taking out the tranny mount bolt , 3rd on your right side.
6. sliding in the snorkel into the fender well, and installing filter, and connecting to stock intake arm.
7. Bolting snorkel to chassis, right by the ABS module.
8. Attatching hose clamp to end of the snorkel in the fender well, then bolting the attatched bracket to the fender well at the very bottom.
9. Attach Air horn to the end of the snorkel and securing it with the provided tape.
10. Put Rad back in place, tranny mount bolt back in, reseal the fender lining, put wheel back on, lower your car.
11. ENJOY

But it is well worth the time money and effort.

For those who believe that this intake is too pricey, it is definetly worth it's weight in gold.

Thanks to Richard at Option JDM in Toronto Ontario Canada for the hook-up, you can check them out at http://www.optionjdm.com.

Picking up my Rage Header next week, should have a review posted shortly. Possibly a dyno chart to see what kind of gains these mods have made.

are step 1-3 necessary?

1.Jacking up the car and removing the passenger side front wheel.
2. Removing fender lining, stock intake box, snorkel and resonator.
3. unbolting the rad and moving it as far to the other side of the engine bay as possible.

every ITR i have driven/ridden in with the Mugen piece has made the vtec crossover sound very mild and less obnoxious than every other intake i have heard. I suppose if you went from stock to the Mugen it may sound that way though. Thanks for sharing

Either that or removing a couple of the pass. side tranny/engine mount bolts. I also recomend removing the a/c line bracket from under the car (the line that runs up between the rad. fan and condensor fan) to get more room and helps with the spreading of the a/c lines.

I installed mine and Jetydosa's like the OP and it is pretty quick. I think I am down to like 40 min or something.

Another Mugen Intake convert.

It's the best intake for the DC2.

Could/Does anyone have a picture to show me the bracket mention above? Is is the bracket originally where the 2 AC line is sitting on?

thx

I am unsure what you are asking....

Here is where the first a/c bracket is removed. It doesn't get reinstalled obviously.

The second is under the car below the radiator. It however gets reinstalled. I found that the larger a/c line will move much easier with this bracket removed. The radiator will also have more room the move also.

Here is a link to my install: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=886476

Mine did. I didn't have AC in the car so no lines for me to worry about.

With the limited driving I've done since the change I can say this...

Throttle response is great, but not as good as the J's, but not by much.
Low end power is improved over the J's
The mugen has power all over the powerband.
