Your harness has a short in it. Happened to my JDMs also.

I just replaced it and have not had any issues since.

I could see mine sparking when I checked it out. There was a little bit of smoke too.

I have some Honda black plastic sockets and metal contact with several inches of wire on the shelf right now, common issue. Once the wiring gets a little cooked its time to splice in a whole nother set.

just wondering how much you paid for some brand new jdm headlights.

i was almost positive no honda dealership in the world kept stock of it anymore. unless you got lucky and bought it a few years back. kinda like the 94-96 foglight switch. very rare.

anyways i hope you don't have yours setup to where the high beams use both bulbs, that always puts more strain on things unless you know what you are doing.

i bought my lights from a guy who bought from honda of japan. he had documentaion showing it. he paid 800ish but sold to me for 250 since he wrecked his lude. but yes mine are wired up to when i turn my brights on both low and hi are on. thats how mine were setup when i bought the car. I simple just cut and spliced to hook up new headlights. and only my driver side low beam melted all others look and work fine. I changed out the socket today and so far its working fine.

well the high beams are supposed to only be the inside lights.

ppl just think since other cars uses the h4's dual filament as high/low that the prelude can too.

well i bought a whole front clip and used the harnesses to wire in my jdm headlights. they didn't wire that up from factory and i don't see it neccessary to run both as an "extra" set of high beams.

the stock jdm harness doesn't even allow for both to be on.

if im not mistaken i think they are wired up so all 4 lights are on when you turn the brights on. can any one else vouche for that?

you can get a 5 pin relay and a h4 harness and wire up the lights so that the h4 bulb(outside bulb) is your high/low beam and then you can wire your inside bulbs(the normal highbeam) to be a DRL(daytime running light) or just another fog light. this way when you are driving on really dark roads at night with noone else on the rode you can have alot of lights.

wire them up up how you want.....you can just do the normal splice the wires where the old ones were, or take time to get the full potential out of your lights

That happened to me, seemed it was loose and it shorted somehow, melting stuff. I just made sure the connectors were very tight again (bent them a bit), whacked it back on and have not had any problems since. (JDM as well)

my headlights are very bright. when i installed them i double grounded the wires since there were 3 on the jdm ones and only 2 on the usdm. it made a significant difference i feel. and when i turn my brights on the road gets very well lit with all 4 lights. i just hope another socket dosent melt and potentially damages something that takes more then 2 bux and 5 mins to fix.
