Default question about buying a bike.

hi guys, i'm really new to this. i've finished my msf and I've been riding a friends bike long enough to think that I'm ready for my own bike now. I've been looking for a f3, but I found a great deal on a 600rr. but the price is almost too good to be true. The guy said he was in a car accident and has head trauma and is now deaf. The e-mails have seemed ligit, and he wants to go through this escrow company (http://www.escrowbikes.com/). What do you guys think? I've never bought a bike before, are there ways I can find out if I'm not getting myself into a world of hurt? I asked for the vin but I'm still waiting on it. The bike is a 05 with only 200 miles on it, and remember, dirt cheap.

help!
andrew

oh also, he's in MO and I'm in CA

if it's to good to be true, it probably is. A good deal is one thing, a steal is another... there could be title issues, make everything plain and clear with this seller, in addition you will not be able to reg the bike in calif unless it is a 50 state model. Escrow is there to protect the buyer, not the seller...

For big purchases, buy local ONLY!

Escrow companies are almost always a scam.

I can't stress this enough.

Listen to those guys, its true....its more than likely a scam, if its too good to be true, it usually is exactly that.

ok thanks guys. I'm going to steer clear of this one. I'm always a believer in you get what you pay for, but I thought I'd just ask anyways.

never knew that escrow companies could be a scam. thanks for the info.
also completely forgot about the states issues, i better start looking locally.

thanks.

not to make this thread any longer than it needs to be, but the guy just sent me a scan of the title. I know it's pretty dang easy to photoshop it, but should this make the deal more reliable in any way? I've already decided theres too much risk in this deal, but if I were to check the VIN to verify stuff, wouldn't it be ok?

Default Dealing with the same guy...

I just had to post because I'm dealing with the same guy. I knew it was a scam but played along with the person anyways. See his e-mail to me below. Until the crime has been comitted, you just can't do anything. Once he steals your money it too late and just can't find the guy. Anyways be smart. Lee

---------------------

Hi,

I'm glad you are interested in buying my 2004 Yamaha R1 for $2900
Like New condition and Clear title and only 1900 miles

It is hard to say it but I will
6 months ago I had a car accident that involved some severe head trauma and now im deaf .. as you can imagine I wont be able to ride this bike anymore

Now I need to sell the bike very fast .. to pay my Hospital bills outstanding balance .. that's why the low price

I suggest to use an escrow service that I am very familiar with, a very
trustable and professional service.
Here is the link: http://www.escrowbikes.com
The fees which they charge are very low ( 0.75%).
I am already a member of this website. My registered email address is
cjoctriplet@aol.com
Also, you can check my http://www.escrowbikes.com rating (41 positive transactions
and none of them negative) by clicking "Check a user rating" on their home page
(just enter my email).
Through them you can choose up to 30 days for inspection period before I get
paid
Here is how we will proceed:
1) Register with http://www.escrowbikes.com and start the transaction with me (or I
can start it as a seller if you want, just let me know).
2) Secure $2900 to http://www.escrowbikes.com (it will act as a third party securing the
funds).
3) After you wire the money to them, I will ship you the R1 to you
I will pay for escrow fees and shipping

These bikes you guys are looking at are 5-6 grand under what the sell for. I never deal with anyone via escrow or western union. Almost always scams.

here is another scammer....but through square trade not escrowbikes.....stay away from this guy too but he is more greedy he wants $4K for a 2003 Honda CBR 600RR for Sale:

Hello,
Yes the bike its still for sale. I'm currently in Miami FL the bike is also here but this is not a problem the shipping is included in the buy it now price $4000.00 and I will use http://www.us-auto-transport.net to get it to your door (3 working days).
I need money very fast because i have some problems, this is the only reason I sell it so cheap, I'm not in the position to make a long time sale my problems are way more important than the bike. The bike is in a perfect condition but that you will be able to inspect yourself because you will have 1 day for that. If you are not satisfied with the bike Recycler will refund you but I'm sure you will not have any reason not to love it. I'm
telling you that it's condition is perfect but you will be able to decide that yourself. I have keept it in a perfect condition though it's not new . Bikes are my passion I had many until now so I have earned the experience of
mantaining them. I didn't use it often, most of the time it was in the garage. But anyway the bike will speak for itself. Bike is made for US market and have US specs on it so you wont pay any customs or import fees on
it. I will send you all papers and documents, clear title, bills of sale to proove the ownership and to be able to register it with no problem. I need your full name and address so I can ask Square Trade to handle our
deal. They will send you all details&conditions in order to complete the sale secured.
Thanks

thru Google....search for square trade scam....and there is a ton of info on this scam.

if it is too good to be true....it most definitely is!

Its funny because I e-mail the guy saying that I have a friend that lives in Odessa, MO and he is available any time to go see the bike. the dude back pedals and states that because he is deaf he can't comunicate and won't be able to do it. He had the nerve to recommend western union instead...

I would do an escrow but only thru escrow.com or paypal...

haha, scammers are funny.

i once emailed this guy about his gti vr6 he was selling for $6300, mkIV model with low miles. I told him that i was going to drive down for a relative and wanted to check out the car in-person. I requested his phone number and i never heard back from him. I'll never buy a car or motorcycle without seeing it in person first.

Greetings:

1. Visit http://www.godaddy.com and type in escrowbikes.com. Go through each step until you see the contact information for the domain.
2. The company ‘escrowbikes.com’, on their Web site, claims to have been in business since 1999. The domain name ‘escrowbikes.com’ was registered on July 21, 2006.
3. The company does not list an address
4. The company does not list a phone number.
5. Performing a Google.Com search on the Internet will result in nothing…nobody else has ever heard of the company.
6. Clicking on the link to TrustE displays a page that says http://www.truste.org in the caption and claims that the site is Verified. It’s spoofed (faked). The actual page that is displayed is at http://www.escrowbikes.com/TRUSTE/truste_info.htm.
7. Clicking the VeriSign logo does pretty much the same thing. It claims to display a page that was copied from here: https://seal.verisign.com/spla...ng=en – NetworkSolutions was replaced with EscrowBikes. Look at the source for each of these pages, and you’ll understand what I mean.
8. Bottom Line – Fraud.
9. I’ve reported them to GoDaddy, VeriSign, and trustE. I encourage you to do the same.

what's funny is i'm trying to SELL my bike and i believe i'm getting scammed....
i posted both my bikes for sale on recycler and i get numerous e-mails about buyers asking for my home address, so they can send me a check, and they're going to arrange to have some shipping company come pick up my bike... WIERD!!

here are a couple of the e-mails:
Thanks for your mail.I need a favour from you:I contacted the shipping company to pay them directly, but they told me they couldn't collect any money from me unless they have assigned the shipper that will come for the pick up of the ( 1997 Yamaha YZF-600R (600cc) )along side other cars placed in care of the shipping agent and you know that could cause a delay which i don't want in this transaction.A check of $4,000 will be sent to you and you will take the following steps:
1.Get the payment cashed
2.Deduct the amount for the goods
3.Deduct Extra $50 for running around
4.Send the balance to the shipper that will come for the pick up through western union money transfer or international moneygram. The balance will be used by the shipper to ship the goods, purchase flight ticket to come to your location and make necessary documents for me. I will let you know when the shipping company assign the person that will come for the pick up.My shipper will come for the pick up on a specicified day that will be convenient for both of you.I will be keeping you updated about the payment.I hope i can count on you for my excess amount.I need to know the following information;the way you want it to appear on
the payment:
Name in full
Adress in full
Zip and postal code
Home and cellphone number
NB:You will dedeuct western union charges from the amount you will send to the shipper. I will beexpecting your mail asap
