Default Question regarding the sub frame and asr kit (gsr)

I know there have been a lot of posts regarding the asr kit and the weakness of the sub frame with larger sway bars, but my questions are somewhat different.

Does anyone know if the displacement of the sway bar a half an inch or so back with the asr kit has any negative effects to the original design?

Where exactly is the weak part of the sub frame, and would it not be easier to just reinforce it by reinforcing the welding?

I haven't got my ASR brace yet but I could give you a little insite on the subframe issue. On a Bigger diameter rear sway bar, I had a Progress 22mm(original/teal) installed for about 5~6 years, until the subframe started showing some hair line cracks(getting it fixed soon). The sway bar on mine was bottoming out on the rear LCA's and was literally 'pushing' the lower end of the subframe forward because of the force(see the pic below of what I mean....) causing it to rip a little.

But for the people that use other Sway bars that are even stronger, without a brace, the shear strength of the sway bar puts alot of stress on the subframe and rips a hole where the D-brackets are mounted. The problem starts where the bend in the subframe is(around the inner mounting location bolt of the LCA's).

To answer your question of reinforcing it, it is possible "If" you remove your subframe and weld in a gusset on the inside, like the 99~00 Civic Si rear subframe, but that's very costly and pain in the *** to fix. Basically, the ASR brace is a 'stress releaving/tie bar/reinforcement' brace for the subframe.

And to answer the mounting location of the sway bar....you might want to refer to ASR's site. There's a "FAQ" section on it.

http://www.ASRparts.com

To be more specific, ask Charleston (SN: "CivicFerio" on this site).

I hope my insite helped a little.

No Problem. Just ask Charleston on specifics on prevention.
