Default Upgrading Valves Only (Good or Bad?)

Okay, I just wanna raise my compression with Skunk2 Flat valves but I don't wanna get Retainers, Valve Springs, or cams. Is this bad? Will I screw my engine like this?

honestly, why?

you may as well just do all that **** at the same time or don't do it at all

Well... I don't plan to do much more to my car, just want slightly higher compression. Plus my mechanic does the work cheap, and I may never want to get cams cuz that requires tuning which is expensive.

And I figured if I'm not running an aggressive lift, I wouldn't need Valve Springs or Retainers.

if tuning is too expensive for you, then you shouldn't be dinking around the inside of your motor

seriously, the advantages of putting in high comp valves will be pretty much be 0 unless you have high compression pistons. you could probably get the same bump in compression with a thinner head gasket and it wouldnt be half the pain in the ***. just my $0.02

i've also read from Frank @ Pocketrockets that the added weight to the valve to make it flat just kinda oversees the bump in compression.

Well I went from H22A4 (10.6:1 CR) to H22A Type-S (11:1 CR) and it's a significant difference (23hp). I know some of that comes from the Type-S cams though.

But I mean... I've spent $800 or so for about 2hp (Greddy Exhaust). Why not spend $500 for a possible 5hp? (HC Valves)

800 for a greddy exhaust? u can gain more and spend less with a custom exhaust...

I really think aftermarket valves are pointless unless the head is built, just my .02

bceause there are other things you can buy besides breaking into the motor to do the most minute upgrade of all......

but if you want...go ahead and waste your money.

add 300 to that 500, and u've got urself an RMF header, way more power than just valves

the h22a4 is not 10.6:1 compression and you dynoed 23hp more or are you just thinking you did?

I would spend that money for valves on a perfomance TIMING BELT...those things fly. 5-10 hp.

kiss my *** if you think im serious. start with I/H/E

WOW!!! It never ceases to amaze me how many people will spend hundreds of dollars on parts that don't help the performance at all. Why can't these people just give me the money. I could make MUCH better use of it.

Well, I wanted something where I could print out information on to show the cop and say that the exhaust complies with the California noise ordinance. I've actually gotten out of two exhaust tickets from it. Kinda why I spent so much on an exhaust.

Oh and it wasn't $800. It was more like $550. I wasn't thinking.

::::

Most sites I read up on say the Type-S motor is 223. What's it supposed to be?

Cuz you're not the one that busted his *** through college to get a good job to earn that money.

-lightweight flywheel
-thinner headgasket
-removed p/s, a/c
-pulleys

even tuning all the stuff you have on there now will net you some performance..

all better alternatives than those valves.. IMHO

Already have an 8lb flywheel and Stage2 clutch. I want powered steering and air conditioning.

Pulleys... I have the under drive pulley. But all the other pulleys, do they really do make much of a difference.

You do know I'm talking about getting the flat valves that raise the compression ratio right?

what we are saying, is the gain of this Compression is going to be SO minimal, that you are going to feel like you wasted 500 bones...and then you will proceed to kick yourself in the *** as we say, we told you so
