99' d16y7 turbo
there are soo many forms on here about turbos, but like everyone else I want to get the opinion on my own setup. I have done some research and think i want to go turbo. is the oil a problem with the d16y7? what turbo should i get? how much will this cost. i was thinking about spending 2000-2500 for it, cheaper if able to. I dont want to go too cheap just because it is alot of money and i figure a little more for better quality wouldnt hurt. I was thinking of turbo, injectors, and hondata. please let me know what yall think and if yall have any links to good affordable turbos.
keep im mind you get what you pay for.
id say good luck finding a halfway decent kit already put together for you at that price. and also whenever you add significant power to your car youre gonna want to upgrade the clutch and thats 300 alone, Hondata is another 300, tuning 200, even dsm injectors are a couple hundred. give yourself 3000 and you minght be able to build a worth while set up.

2 g's will give you a great setup. My setup ran me around 1500-1600, no cheap ss auotcrome junk, no fmu, all decent ****, garret t3 super 60 turbo, 3" downpipe, bmc log mani, jrc front mount, 2.25 piping kit, greddy type s, tial wastegate, skunk2 pro series intake mani. dsm 450s, obdI p28 ecu with crome.
ohh and everything was new, nothing used

go to turbod16.com they will help you out alot and with 2000 you will have a killer setup, and have no problem pushing 200 whp and possibly more depending on your setup. also look into doing a leak down and compression test.

You can usually throw togehter a good turbo setup for about 600, that's without hondata and a tuner... The lowest I've heard of was 250..
And these aren't exaCtly cheap setups...they jsut dont' buy greddy full kits - they piece together their own...

**** man, you can just get the greddy turbo kit for the d16z6 and save a couple hundred, with that extra money convert to obd-1, then use the e-manage that now comes in the kit, then save for hondata s200 with the boost option, tune it and go, the d16z6 kit comes with smaller injectors and i think a tad bit smaller turbo, thats it

I have almost the same setup on my y7 and it pulls very nice. If you are going to turbo yours, keep it close to this setup and you wont be upset.

i mean every mod supports another, so head work, yes will make a huge difference. Im running a skunk2 proseries intake mani. Probably going to go up to a b16 or b18 throttle body also.

Wow I'm going with the AEM cam as well and was trying to decide between the skunk2 or edlebrock intake manifold. lol How much did you get your intake mani. for and where?

well im going to be going the 15g turbo set up, greddy intercooled, blue box on the d16y7. I got a skunk2 im, a y8 throttle body and need to get exhaust to help it breath a little better. does anyone know what exhaust would be a good fit for that set up. i was looking on turbod16.com, they have some good advice, i also just thought of doing an e-cut out. Again im only looking for 200whp or so, i could see myself building it a little and getting it to 250. we will see
My buddy did one in his 98' Civic and I think he made 220 HP tuned on a stock block with 12 psi of boost. Pulls pretty nice. Personally I would probably do a motor swap, but if the budget is an issue I'd build a turbo kit for it. You could put one together now for next to nothing. Good luck with your project.

I have the same project d16y7. woot
