Default Painting door moldings

Hello

My EF civic hatch goes out for a paint job next week and I am wondering just how does everyone paint their side moldings? I know mine are made out or rubber, or at least are very soft. Are their plastic ones available? Can the rubber be painted?
thanks,
-Marc

Now that I think about it, my last hatch has painted moldings, but they seemed a lot harder than the ones that are on mine. Just curious how I should go about this,
thanks again

I would take them off before it goes to paint. Its a lot easier to paint them that way then reinstall them. I just used a semi gloss black of some kind...they do make a trim paint also.

BUT, what about color matching the moldings to the car? They dont seem paintable, yet I have had some in the past that were.

Which moldings are these? Mine are plastic, or at least what I call the moldings. I got some trim paint almost a year ago and still haven't done it...

Just scuff, primer, and paint. Dont forget to clear them when finished to protect from weather...

if you want them the same color as the car (yuck) then just let the shop paint the whole damn thing. They DO know how to do that.

My point is, these are extremely soft. I am unsure weather the primer and paint will flake off, or crack, or even stick. Where can I buy brand new factory plastic ones?

No, their keeping the search feauture a secret.
Search, this has been cover a gajillionzillionbillion times. Over, Over -............and over again.

Take off your moldings.
Wipe them down with Acetone.
Paint with Krylon Plastic Fusion Black paint.
Ta-da.

You could've also solved this mystery with common sense......

ok, yeah, krylon fusion, right,..... NOT. I specifically said I wanted to shoot them with the car, its getting painted. A search for moldings, door molding, trim, painting moldings..... NOTHING came up, not sure what your issue is with the smart attitude gocrxgo....

Anyway, wipe them with acetone, then prime them and paint/ clear them with the rest of the car correct?

yeah...there is nothing special that you would do differently than the rest of the car. Just prep them like you would on the body panels.

My issue is your:
A.A ****** retarded. What kind of person doesn't know how to paint???
B.Your Lazy. I dont give a expletive what you say, this has been covered a million times over. and you DIDNT search fully. Go search in the EF forum for the words you listed, and search post body, not title, moron.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by hybrid racer &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">where can i get new ones?</TD></TR></TABLE>
where the **** do you guys come from?
"Gee, I want new moldings for my Honda. Where can I get them?"
Oh IDK maybe a Hummer dealership?or junkyard?
WHERE THE expletive DO YOU THINK!

Thats my problem bro, are stupid ****** questions, and laziness.
Why didnt you take your lazy *** out there and test paint one of your rubber moldings? or better yet why dont you take your lazy *** to the junkyard and get regular ones.

People like you are a drain on HT, you contribute nothing but retarded ?'s and dont help out at all. You just waste our bandwidth

I've heard multiple times that you should never paint plastic that came unpainted from the factory(i.e. moldings, black bumpers). These plastics have certain chemicals in them already that should not be painted over, the paint will react with these chemicals and flake off. There is a process they must go through that is extensive, complicated, and expensive. Just ask anyone who has ever painted the plastics on an 03-05 Element, and done it right. My sister took her base model RSX to a couple body shops to have her side skirts color matched (like the Type-S), and both places told her it was a bad idea. Their advise was to just buy some Type-S skirts and match the paint. What I'm getting at is, I think it's a bad idea to paint your moldings.

I should of added that there is a 3M product that you spray on plastic/rubber type material to prep it before hand. Sorry I cant remember what its called...
If you call any reputable body/paint shop they could tell you right away.
