carbs backfiring up into airbox... need some help
I went for a ride the other day and it was doing this a LOT. I've never had it do it so much. something wasn't right. I've asked around and a couple people said it does that when it's lean. Now what I don't get is it was fine before so either bad gas or because it's been real cool the last few days that the air density has maybe affected me... Now it only does this on partial throttle too. Some suggestions have been adjust the mixture screws, replace the pilot jets, as well as get a good sync on it. I'm just frustrated cause it's never ran REAL well and I'm such a carb noob. Not to mention that I have to take the tank off, the air box off, remove the throttle cables, the choke cable, and THEN can finally pull the carbs, adjust get back down to the air box and then can test it out... I'm really starting to wonder if I need to goto a pro or try and find someone locally that'd be willing to help out for a 6-pack or something. Dyno time + tuning just isn't something I want to do because of the $$$$ issue (don't have none...)
for sure get your carbs checked on by someone with knowledge
also, is your ignition system up par? maybe you are getting a build up of unburnt mixture, which then pops back through your carbs? new plugs, wires, etc...

Take out your spark plugs and check those to see if it looks lean.

All that takes a total of maybe an hour if youre slow. If you can work on a car you can work on a bike. If you do decide to take them apart on your own and you have a digital camera, take pictures of everything you do so you have a reference if you get unsure.

carb work is really not super hard and there are about a million sources on the internet that will help you immensely. Alot cheaper than going to a shop.

Been there done that with many projects. Having those pictures handy makes a world of a difference. Combined with a laptop, you can blow them up, and flip through them really quick. Its like building your own tutorial thats project specific

I assure you taking it apart isn't an issue. I've been down to the heads without using my manual. mechanical stuff or taking things apart and putting them back together = no problem. thing is testing new carb settings is a royal PITA because so much has to be done. I'll check the plugs too
