how much should I expecting to spend??
I love my Sol too much to take to the track so I am thinking about building myself something I can take to the track. I am thinking an EG hatch and dropping in a B16 or B18 w/ a VTEC and just doing very minor mods like a racing radiator, a stiffer suspension and rear sway bar, lightweight rims (maybe HX rims??), new tires, cold-air, 4-2-1 headers, high flow cat, and a racing catcack.
Could I do this myself under or around 3 grand??

a b18 alone will cost you 3000-4000 depending where you get it...then youll also have to buy mods, and the car itself, plus fix anything thats wrong (like suspension and whatnot)...maybe for 6,000 depending on what exactly you want and how good you are a bargain shopping
like they said for 3000 its a dream.
just get any hatch u like keep the d boost it wit a t25 so ur not laggin around and maybe some tires and adj. coilovers.that should make for a nice cheap little toy.

yea, maybe a D series would be easiest... password JDM B16 was only 2 grand. I don't want any JDM stuff, so I should be able to find stuff a lot cheaper than that. Turbos are expensive. Plus a mod like that would move me into a faster class which is why I want to keep it kinda stock. I hope to just autocross it. No drag and obviously no drifting.
I figured maybe a rolling chasis for 500$, a motor for a grand, and 1500$ for the rest. But if i can find a d16 hatch, that'd work too. It doesn't have to be super fast, just something to mess around with on the weekend and race when I want.

scratch my turbo idea. search for bense he has a couple all motor d series builds that were almost 0 dollars using unwanted d parts then u can of course slap a (redneck voice)VTAK head and have at it

- What kinda track?
- No it can't be done
EDIT:
Sorry for being short, I'll try to explain more.
Expect to pay 2 - 2.5k (approx) for a B16 low mileage once u've worked out all the kinks, and about 2.5 - 3.5k w/ a GSR. The parts you listed will run you into the 2k's and possibly up to 3k or past depending on the quality of what you buy.

So why don't you just make your Del Sol less gay and drive that? If you're racing "for fun" the class you're in doesn't matter. If you're racing to compete, your D-series EG won't win unless you go *****-out weight reduction and slicks at all four corners, and even then you'd have to be an amazing driver to attain anything. Also, you won't find a decent rolling chassis EG hatch for $500. Ever.
A D16 without a turbo is slow. Period. If you want something fun and reliable, save up until you can mod your Del Sol the right way and rock it 365 days a year.

My Sol isn't gay.
1. It's a D15 SOHC w/o VTEC w/ 182k so I'd have to be dumb to do something with it.
2. Racing a daily driver is dumb. If I mess something on the track, I've got no way home, to work, etc...
3. If I have a hatchie as well, I can work on at my leisure while still having a car I can drive around 365.
4. Oh course I'd be racing for fun. I wouldn't expect to compete with a D16. I just want to have something fun to toss around at SCCA meets and such.
Oh yea, I forgot to ask... About how much would a hatchie way with say a D16, the minor mods and i removed everything like the a/c and all the interior stuff I can while keeping it street legal.

See... not gay. (Yes, I need to lower is but I can't till I move out seeing I bottom out and the end of the driveway as is.)

its basic. id say get to work on finding that hatch. look for a shell with a mojority of things done, say suspension etc etc. then buy one for lets say 700 bucks or it varys. make sure you get some good quality, then put all your money into the engine. The only hard part is finding a perfect hatch shell. But hey take your time.
