This is common on these Civics, for now just use some needle nose pliers. Your gonna have to take that latch off and replace it, only way to fix it

Yeah, what they^^ said, mine has been like that for 2 years now. If you unclip that grey kick panel you'll be able to get a better grip on it.

That part isn't the latch, darlin, it's the hood cable and actuator. It costs about $25 for the whole deal and it's a pain in the *** to install, so set aside two or three hours, keep your cool and try not to damage the fender

This is a common problem because people think that it is a rotation motion to actuate it. I.e. they try to pull up on it. You have to stick your fingers all the way behind it and pull straight out to avoid this problem. A bit of grease on the actual latch parts once in a while doesn't hurt either.

Cheers.

Thanks for that response, Mr. Thief.

OP: stop being a whiny-bitch about and use some pliers. Better yet, just use your fingers and pull what's there.

Yeah, the cable and actuator is one single piece and the dealership should have it for around $25. I think I got mine for $14 on a hookup from my local dealership.

Just talking ****. Mine's been broken for 4 years now. I have actually been thinking about filing the tip to be nasty sharp so, incase of another break in, the ****** will get a nice puncture wound to the hand. But, knowing my memory I will forget about that and stab myself. Good times!

It was about 12 at my dealer and took me an hour to do it. Only because I'm picky about the fitment on my fender, I like equal gaps.

The hardest part was getting the latch and cable back on without the cable coming off.
